And so my baby has dimples...
By definition,
Dimples are visible indentations of the skin, caused by underlying flesh, which form on some people's cheeks when they smile.
I read that dimples on each cheek are a relatively common occurrence for people with dimples. A rarer form is the single dimple, which occurs on one side of the face only. Dimples are said to be genetically inherited and are a dominant. In our family, it was only me and my brother who inherited my dad's dimple. I have one big, shallow dimple on the left cheek while my brother has one, tinier-but-deeper-than-mine- dimple. Apparently, my faciaL indentation is largely influenced by how i smile and what facial muscle i use at that time- so basically, my dimple can choose to appear or become inconspicuous at times.. hehe.
And yeah, dimples themselves are actually caused by having shorter muscles in certain areas of the face!
On the other hand, my brother, even with the slightest facial movement, his dimple on the right cheek would easily come into view. Since dimples sometimes become less noticeable with age as the muscles lengthen, I only saw long creases of vertical "wrinkles" (which used to be a dimple) on my dad's face when i was growing up. But he used to brag that girls chase after him during his younger years because he's cute (a vibrant lawyer) and has a dimple.
Among the local celebrities, there are just tons of them who have dimples on their cheeks: sultry Pops Fernandez, voluptuous Ara Mina, baby face Rico Yan, pretty KC Concepcion, hunky Diether Ocampo, equestrian Mikee
Cojuangco, world-famous Lea Salonga, Angelu de Leon, dashing Sam Milby, and of course my crush-for-all-time Aga Muhlach! i am just not sure if Atasha and/or Andres inherited their dad's dimple. Dimples are a dominant trait in case i haven't said that, Aga's siblings like Almira and Albert Muhlach, I believe they both have dimples too. (And Aga's dad has dimples too!)
Well, do you know that a cleft-chin is also considered a dimple by definition? Henry my husband has a cleft-chin, both of my kids have it too! Picture Kristine Hermosa (local celeb) and Kirk Douglas... teehee.. that's Cheenee and Jethro! (Only that Kristine has no big dimples on the cheek and that Cheenee has something between her ears..haha).
I know, i know, cheenee is a spitting image of her dad. But allow me to blow my own horn and claim that she got the best of my traits though *wink*.. the forehead (haha), the sweet disposition (Henry is such a grump at times....hehe), the appetite (who can contend with that? hehe), the chipmunk cheeks (eww), and of course, the dimples that appear and disappear on certain times! When she gets bigger, she will eventually learn how to make "pa-cute" with those deep dimples!
Recently, i came across a blog asking whether Ashlee Simpson got her cheeks and dimples done too. Yes, yes, yes, we all know that getting a dimple is also achievable with facial surgeries too!
Cheenee's 3-week old girl cousin has also two dimples by the way! and ohh, did i say Cheenee has not only two but three dimples? Yes, the cleft-chin being the third dimple :)
