QotD: My Life In Technicolor

If you could pick a cartoon world to live in, which would it be?  Why?
Submitted by Scio, Scio.

I would choose the "never land".

A place where people won't grow old and one just have to imagine what kind of food to eat and it'll appear.

One can live how they want it, when they want it.

Blood Pressure Responds Favorably To Chocolatey Goodness

April 11, 2007 — More happy justification for chocolate lovers: blood pressure (BP) responds favorably to cocoa, but not tea, a new meta-analysis suggests. Authors of the study say that while both products are rich in polyphenols, the study findings suggest that phenols in cocoa may be more active than those in tea. The study appears in the April 9 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine.

“Products rich in cocoa may be considered part of a blood pressure lowering diet, provided that the total energy intake does not increase,” lead investigator for the study, Dirk Taubert, MD, PhD, from the University Hospital of Cologne in Cologne, Germany, told heartwire. “I believe that cocoa is healthier than other sugar confectionary or high-fat dairy products.”

You can read the rest of the article here, if you want to know more details about the study. Registration is required. Don’t worry, though! Signing up for access is free.

Now that is good news to chocoholics out there (like me! I think most people do like chocolates, anyway…). Chocoholics may also want to consider consuming dark chocolates, in particular.

However, one must remember that, as Dr. Dirk Taubert said, “Products rich in cocoa may be considered part of a blood pressure lowering diet, provided that the total energy intake does not increase”. Ergo, consumption of chocolates are good but it is the preparation of these chocolates and in what form we consume them that is also important.

Oftentimes, we consume chocolates with added milk, sugar, mints, or other sugary stuff in it and the presence of such added products add to the total calories of chocolate consumed. So, even if chocolate, according to studies, does lower blood pressure, regular consumption of fat and sugar-laden chocolates will only lead to weight gain and, eventually, obesity. Obesity, in itself, is already a risk for hypertension.

So, let’s just remember that, as always, moderation is the key in keeping a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Also, remember that consumption of chocolates is not an alternative to drug treatment for hypertension. Not a few people have the wrong notion that intake of more “natural” products will be better for one’s health. All-natural is good, if you do it for preventive measures. But if you do have the disease already, it is better that you combine the natural with the medications.

I am my father’s pride

A glimpse of truth passed for only but an hour,
Although, it was not the truth that I was hoping for.
my search for self preservation...relieved
but never enough to put into perspective.

My battle for self reliance...uncounted
for he sees nothing but a shadow of pride.
I am his blood and an extension of his image.
My dreams of being free from these shackles...shattered.

This love that I receive is a love locked away on top of a shelf.
deep inside, I am crippled... still he doesn't care
wishing me to push myself to the top and show him
that I am his blood.

He said that he placed meaning to our names
and how we should live up to it.
That meaning is not my dream
that is not how I want to live.

A moment of weakness, trying to speak
only it made my tears flow like river.
My eyes are sore now... with
never ending pain; never ending torture.

Question remains, when will I be accepted?

Scent of the Moment - Oxygen Static

Posted by Pinoy Guy Guide on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 @ 11:04 am in Lifestyle.

Oxygen's inexpensive perfumes smell tremendously awesome! I bought Static for 199 Pesos a few months ago and it indeed smells great. The scent lasts a long long time and it doesn't seem to fade. Just a few sprays and the fragrance stays with you for long. I even smelled the scent after I had my clothes done for laundry. :D

The Radio Files #1 - Beginnings

Posted by Everywhere and Here on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007 @ 9:40 am in Personal - Philippines.

I was debating with myself on where, what, and how to start this mini-series of posts.

  1. Radio in the Philippines limits this geographically;
  2. Getting into radio is different the world over;
  3. Internet radio and podcasting have changed what we listen to so my experience may be irrelevant.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I realized that this is actually more of my way of committing to pen and paper (or shall I say electronic dots on hard drives) how it used to be when I was a jock, i.e. broadcast announcer/dj/morning show host. Sort of like a memoir slash guideline for anyone who might be interested to… listen.
