The Most Trying of Times…

Posted by A Day In The Life... on Monday, July 16th, 2007 @ 1:51 pm in Miscellaneous.

The best of times… the worst of times… no matter how it seems that things will work out, there are just days when the walls appear to be caving in on you.

We are ultimately what our decisions make us to be in the here and now.  Decisions that, during then, seemed the “right” thing to do… and consequently realizing that what you thought then was justifiable and calculated, actually is a costly mistake which has become seemingly irreparable.

This… is my now.  The predicament I’m in is clear.  I have dreaded it but somehow denied what I have consciously known long before… that things would have to be confronted eventually.

I speak in abstract due to the fact that I cannot divulge what has been eating away at me for the longest time… yet, blogging about it, has given me an outlet to vent out my anxieties.

These are my most trying of times… for these are the times when I search inside myself and realize that all my strength and conviction has long gone and have no one else but my wife to seek support and consolation from.  Normally, I would shield my wife from pain and suffering… from the torment of worries and despair.  But now it is in her arms that I seek refuge and in her words that I find faith and solace.

Today… it is not I… but she… who cries… for me… for us.

I thank her.

It is in these times that I realize how fortunate I am to have found a partner, a friend, a confidant… a wife, who supports me and unconditionally loves me.

And through her strength in me, through her faith and belief in all the good there is to come in our lives… I will find the courage to right my wrongs… and to make straight what has long been bent… regardless of what consequences lay ahead and of which should be laid down on me.

I pray for guidance… for the storm has just begun…

Today… there is no way around it…

I won’t allow it.

I confront it head on… here and now.

Brzezinski reacts to the world’s response to the “Paris” incident

Posted by Bryanton Post on Monday, July 16th, 2007 @ 12:30 pm in Politics.

Mika Brzezinski, the MSNBC anchor in the United States who became an international internet sensation after refusing to read a story about celebutard Paris Hilton's release from prison (which Cheche Lazaro mentioned in her recent Gawad Plaridel speech), aired her reaction to the public's overwhelming response to the issue in a follow-up segment aired by MSNBC itself.

The controversial episode, aired last June 26, showed Brzezinski refusing to read the Hilton's story on air. She later attempted -- but failed -- to burn the story's script on air. She then tore up the script, and one hour later, got up and ran another copy of the script through a paper shredder.

"An excerpt of the episode has been viewed around three million times on YouTube," according to journalism.co.uk (where I learned about the follow-up segment), "giving Brzezinski, who has worked in TV news for 17 years, far more attention than she normally commands in MSNBC's early-morning slot."

"The incident was quickly popularized on the Internet," the Wikipedia account on Brzezinski said, "and in the days that followed Brzezinski received large quantities of fan mail supporting her on-air protest as a commentary on the tension between 'hard news' and 'entertainment news'."

Says journalism.co.uk: "Many YouTube commenters have praised the anchor for refusing to tolerate celebrity news high in the editorial agenda."

In the interview, her interviewer and co-anchor in their morning program said to Brzezinski: "The journalistic community has heard your statement and it thanks you."

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I am not a fan of the Harry Potter books. To be honest, I haven't read a single book but I just love the movies. So anyway I rushed to the theater this weekend to watch Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I don't know but I find the first part a little B-O-R-I-N-G. I know it does explain the story but I think they could have done better by adding a bit of action than just plain

Acalculia: A weird dream

Posted by differentials on Monday, July 16th, 2007 @ 9:23 am in Personal - Philippines.

I was very pleased to have picked a good umbrella. It was a blue one with a simple case. I bought it for 500 pesos.

Then, one day I was on a tour, I had a bright idea. I will sell the umbrella to make a profit out of it. I approached two young guys I knew from the UPCM. I talked them into buying it. I told them, you will be getting a good deal if you buy from me because I am selling it to you for 70 pesos. I told myself, wow! what a brilliant idea to sell the umbrella that way. The guy was matter-of-factly in saying, “Ok. Here’s a deal. I’ll get it for 60 pesos.” I was still very pleased with myself that I was so wise. I could easily get the same umbrella from the store I bought it from. And the guy certainly didn’t know how to bargain. You don’t bargain with a price that is just marginally lower than the original price the item is being sold. So there, I made the deal. I gave the guy the umbrella for 60 pesos and I thought I was starting to know how to earn money in the real world.

The thing is, as the guy was walking away, he said he will pay me a bit later after he is done with his shopping, that’s the only time I had this thought: “Oh my, I think I made the wrong deal. Yes, I did get a good gain with the price I sold it. But damn. I should have asked for the money first before I handed the guy the umbrella.”

So stupid. Hehehe. How could anyone forget a dream like that?

iPhone spotted

Posted by on Monday, July 16th, 2007 @ 6:27 am in Technology.

While behind on my postings, this bit of news can’t wait. Well, not really. It can. I just don’t want to forget about this right now.

I saw an iPhone today. Yep. In the Philippines, and definitely NOT a clone. I have seen many clones and this definitely is not one of them.

Location, Park Square 1. It really wasn’t that obvious (hence the lack of photographic evidence) since I was just strolling. It took some time for me to notice the particular phone that the two people were talking about. I heard the words “fast user interface” and thought I could sneak a peek and yes, I managed to do so without being suspicious/weird about it.

What made me feel sure it was an iPhone? Well, with all the iPhone talk on the internet, the main screen has been, in a way, burned into my mind. The distinct colors, the size, the material used, the glassy screen was distinctly iPhone-ish.

The thing that makes me wonder is, why here? Now? The iPhone has just been released in the States. And that was under a contract with AT&T. So the presence of an iPhone here would mean either one of quite a few possibilities. But regardless of what those possibilities are (one of them reads Gray Market), I wonder if it can already be used in the Philippine network system. It’s no big news that there are a lot of hackers there for the iPhone. Its only a matter of time before they figure out how.

But in mind of these thoughts, the thing still ringing in my mind is:

I saw a real live iPhone! Hehehehe
