What is NCLEX-RN Exam?

Posted by Philippine Nurses - Nursing Board Exam Result June 2007 on Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 @ 9:36 am in Miscellaneous.

Entry into the practice of nursing in the United States and its territories is regulated by the licensing authorities within each jurisdiction. To ensure public protection, each jurisdiction requires a candidate for licensure to pass an examination that measures the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level registered nurse. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) develops two licensure examinations, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses that are used by state and territorial boards of nursing to assist in making licensure decisions.

PURPOSE OF NCLEX-RN EXAM
The primary responsibility of the NCLEX Examinations Department of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) is the development, delivery and support of the NCLEX-RN® and NCLEX-PN® examinations. NCLEX® candidates, nurse educators, health care professionals and the public will find useful information provided in the links to the left.

NCLEX Eligibility
In order to take the NCLEX examination, you must apply for nursing license from your state board of nursing. That board will determine whether or not you meet its criteria for NCLEX examination-eligibility. You must then register to take the exam.NCLEX RegistrationOnce you've applied for a license from your state board of nursing, you will receive an NCLEX Examination Candidate Bulletin in the mail. You may then register with the National Council of State Boards of Nursing's testing service by phone, or by filling out a mail-in registration form. Once your state board of nursing has verified your eligibility to take the NCLEX examination, you will receive an Authorization to Take the Test (ATT),along with a list of testing centers and instructions for how to schedule an appointment to take the examination.

Length of Test
The NCLEX examination is a multiple choice exam which uses an interactive system called Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) to gauge your level of competence. RN candidates will answer a minimum of 75 questions, LPN candidates a minimum of 85 questions. After you have answered the minimum number of questions, the computer will attempt to access your level of competence. If you are clearly above the passing standard at this time, you will pass; likewise, if you are clearly below the standard you will fail. If you are too close to the standard to allow a definitive result to be determined, you will continue to answer questions until a final assessment can be made. RN candidates may take a maximum of 265 questions, LPN candidates a maximum of 205.Time to Complete the ExamYou will have 6 hours in which to complete the exam. This includes the time set aside for the introductory computer tutorial and for two 10-minute breaks.NCLEX Examination ScoringThe NCLEX examination is scored once by the computer on which you are taking it, and a second time by the National Council's testing service.

Receiving Results
More or less it takes about a month for your state board of nursing to mail you the results of your exam.

Pearson Vue’s Manila testing center contact info

Posted by Philippine Nurses - Nursing Board Exam Result June 2007 on Tuesday, July 17th, 2007 @ 9:36 am in Miscellaneous.

An NCLEX-RN test center is finally here in Manila. Although the center officially opens on August 23, when the first NCLEX exam in the Philippines will be conducted, applicants may now schedule their test date.

Two days ago, all the exam slots in the Hong Kong test center from July to October were all booked, but today, numerous slots have opened from late July onwards. It was about time that a Manila test center opened, for such a long time Filipinos have had tremendous difficulty scheduling test dates there, so many had to resort to extreme measures such as taking the NCLEX in Saipan, Taiwan, South Korea, and even Japan. More importantly, the opening of the Manila test center is a great financial relief to many Filipino nurses who don't have the resources to pay for plane fare, food, and hotel accommodations outside the country.

The Manila test center won't be conducting exams until August 23, but if you want to know where it's located so you can scout transportation routes and nearby hotels, you can check out the map I've made.

Pearson Vue today will begin scheduling services for the NCLEX-RN exam in its Manila testing center. Here's the contact information for the Manila center:

Pearson Professional Centers-Manila, Philippines
Telephone: 8210 2929 7803
Address: 27th Floor, Trident Tower 312 Senator Gil Puyat Avenue,
Makati City, Manila

The number listed above was listed as the official number of the Pearson office in Manila, however, it was removed from the Web site a few days after. If you can't reach this number, you may try other Pearson Vue hotlines:

The Asia-Pacific call center (based in Australia): +612-94785400

You may try this number as well: 1280061294785400(The prefix 1 and 2 might be for int'l dialing, so you can replace it with your use your provider's int'l dialing instructions, for ex. +1 or +001, etc.)

You can also try this: 1800-1110-0796 loc 3(Contributed by Kokeshi)

David Beckham’s got an official blog. But I don’t think anyone would be happy to know that. ^_^V

So far,
1. I’ve done a part of 36 Moons’ character profile page
2. E-mailed/Replied to people
3. Finished watching Death Note anime
4. Finished reading Ai-Ren (I’m now feeling depressed after reading this.)
5. Got my grade/completion form yesterday

I need to take a bath now because I have to go to school. The dean/chairperson might have to sign the completion form first before my grade will be recorded. XP Thesis groupmates and I will also have to talk to our professor if we could start on the final paper.
