What is Squidoo?

Sometime back, i heard about squidoo lenses and i was curious enough to make my own lens (a page that is referred as "lens" on squiodoo). The site is more like myspace, friendster combined with blogger or wordpress as i would describe it.

What sets squidoo different from others?

The site is user-friendly and easy to use. Everything is within a particular arrangement, so you dont have to do much of tweaking and designing (which is perfect for novice blogger like me). It all boils down to the content of your lens.

How do i earn with squidoo?

Earning is made by advertising fees that squidoo applies to each of your lens. If someone clicks on those ads, youll get a cut from them. ( great huh?!) This is I think how i got my $.25 And that's not it. For even bigger chances of earning, squidoo is affiliated with e-bay, amazon, cafepress and hundreds of sellers that you could add in your lens. You just have to pick which products you want to add in your lenses. And if someone makes a purchase through your lens, you'll get a bigger cut!

Furthermore, squidoo is a charity-oriented site. You can either choose to give your earnings to your charity of choice, (which leisure lens-makers do) or take it into percentages. 60-40 or 50-50. . . your choice. I made my lens 60-40. 60 for me.hehe

What kirby thinks about Squidoo.

I think squidoo is an opportunity to increase traffic to your blog. It serves as an outlet of your blog since you can link your blog from the lenses you make. Promote your lenses, and not only will you earn from the lenses but in the process, increasing traffic to your blog which would mean even more monetary earnings.

And if youre really serious about making money from squidoo, you may want to make alot of lenses. And im talking about 20 or mmore lenses. I even know somoeone who makes $3 per lens a month and he has 18 lenses. Imagine this working for you. What makes it special is that, lenses are almost "maintenance free". As long as you got traffic, you dont have to more about alot of things.

We, the students of the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines-Diliman, believe that the media, which serve to responsibly inform and enjoin, must unequivocally denounce any law, which ultimately threatens the lives of those they strive to serve – the Filipino people.

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 9372, also known as the Human Security Act (HSA) of 2007, through the surveillance of unsuspecting civilians and the interception of private communication UPON MERE SUSPICION, violates freedom of speech and freedom of the press as enshrined by the Philippine Constitution;

WHEREAS, the vague definitions of terrorism and arbitrary qualifications for terrorists and terrorist activities promote a chilling atmosphere for the public and especially for media practitioners and students of mass communication who repeatedly and necessarily invoke the right to free speech and free press;

WHEREAS, the power to interrogate and detain a “suspected terrorist” on grounds of MERE SUSPICION is open to abuse and misuse for political ends;

WHEREAS, the HAS can easily be transformed into a repressive legal instrument under the implementation of the Arroyo administration whose integrity and intentions are still in question in the context of unsolved killings and enforced disappearances of media practitioners and individuals critical of the government;

WHEREAS, if a law as powerful as the HAS, which can be used to tag virtually any citizen as a terrorist, is enacted without Implementing Rules and Regulations, and whose substantive interpretation is determined at the discretion of the Anti-Terror Council, the police, the military and the few who are given authority, then it intends to sow fear and intimidation upon the very public it purportedly tries to secure;

We strongly condemn the Human Security Act of 2007 in its entirety and call for its immediate repeal by the Congress.

In addition to my previous post, i made something that would hopefully increase my traffic to this blog. After all, this is the essence of blogging that if you take this out, your blog would just be a piece of information existing on the web like a worthless piece of sand in a dessert. (Caffiene really makes me say odd things. lol )

On my clock, its already 10:17pm. Since this morning, ive been adding my blog to numerous blog directories which you can see on the bottom of the page. Well, i realized one thing after my first day, blogging aint just a walk in the park, its a full-time effort.

Todays, work actually brought me to a certain dilemma. What category should I add my blog to? Im torn between financial and personal blog. I just cant decide which is which so i used financial on other blog directories, and personal on the majority of them.

Another problem i encountered was when i was adding banners to blog directories. Each time I add, the blog directories would ask for a specific banner size so its a hard work i tell you. Thankfully, i got 2 applications i use to edit and resize and design banners. I use bannermaker pro and green box logo maker.

Im not very sure if i can benefit with what i did today. I tell you, its worth a try since alot of people recommend it. And if not, well, maybe i just have to retire to the notion that, i gained experience today. After all, blogging aint 100% certainty. Its not certain at all, as a matter of fact.

Here are the questions:

1)  How do you see yourself blogging 3-5 years from now? Will you still blog?

Of course, I’d still be blogging!   Even if I’d be very busy with training then, I know I’ll still find the time to update my blog.  Actually I see myself blogging ’til the day my fingers are all arthritic and I can’t type on the keyboard anymore.  Or maybe until the day I die.  Imagine being able to type in your last entry before succumbing to inevitable death.  Poetic.

2)  What was your most significant experience in blogging?

Meeting various people who leave comments in my posts.  It’s different in chatting in most chatrooms because getting to know people in through my blog usually started as discussions about relevant issues.

3)  How do you budget your time as an MD and blogger?

I’m not working full-time as a doctor so, I guess I’ve got a day or two available for blogging.  And even if I’d become busy working full-time, I think I’d still be blogging.  Like make time for it before bedtime or before going to work.  It’s just that the number of posts I usually write in a month would obviously dwindle down to just few posts.  But, for sure, I’ll be maintaining my blog.

4)  Who influenced you to be what you are today?

I’d like to think that what I am now today is a product of all the choices I’ve made.  But I think the people who influenced me to be who I am today are my friends who do not fear to be open-minded.  Through their help, I found a different perspective in life.

5)  What advice can you suggest for bloggers to build as many links like your blog?

I have many links because I’ve joined different groups like the Thursday Thirteeners and  Blogging Chicks Blogroll.  It increases the chances that your blog will be read and thus, the increased chances of gaining frequent readers.

What’s more important, I think, is attending blogging-related events.  Your online and offline existence, though separate, are still connected.  You can use that to your advantage to network and make connections with others who blog too.  And you get to meet new friends, too!

6)  How did you get featured in various blog write-ups like Blog Addicts and Blog-O-rama?
