Time to spread some love!

Muchos gracias to Jean for naming me as one of her picks for...

rockin' blogger girl

I've never gotten a title that's blog-related before so to get this is really cool. :)

Ok, here's a little summary to my blogging history:

  • I started blogging in late 2004, when I started documenting our wedding preps online for friends and family to read. It was (and still is) a trend among brides-to-be from a support group called WeddingsatWork. Prior to this, I have been keeping a journal since I was 10.

  • This wedding blog of ours has underwent several facelifts as well because I got interested in html and template designing. It soon developed into a more comprehensive site.

  • I then transferred to bloxster after I got my visa to migrate to Australia. Unfortunately, they provided terrible service to their bloggers (I lost dozens of entries there). That's why I migrated to WP.

  • Like the rest, I am also trying my hand at making a little money with blogging. I've put up a separate blogsite for this.

Alright enough blabbering. Time to get down and list my 5 rockin' girl bloggers. I'm picking out those who haven't been tagged yet (as of this writing). :)

  1. Jannah - My idol mommy. She has 2 beautiful daughters, a great husband and is currently finishing her studies. And she still has the time to blog! :) I met her at w@w.

  2. Abby - the girl from NY. She's also from w@w. She writes really well and I enjoy reading her entries. She cooks good food too (as if natikman ko na! :) the photos she takes of them just make you want to drool).

  3. Via - my classmate back in grade school. She's been a good friend ever since. We kept in touch through snail mail when my family moved from Manila to Cebu. I found their blog (with husband Noel) accidentally while surfing the net.

  4. Iris - She was a co-therapist at the hospital where I used to work for. We also went to the same college. She is an avid writer and is good at it too. Iris is now based in Texas.

  5. Kat - Fellow Australia-based blogger. She writes articles for several online magazines. She loves reading like I do and is a self-confessed romance novel junkie.

Okidokie girls, now it's your turn to spread the love. :)

Yumi Sugimoto in a school uniform Yumi Sagamoto is so pretty. ^_~ I found 2 more photo sets of hers and will check them asap. sing

Philippines ranks second on what regions mostly googled (wow, Google can become a verb!) Maria Ozawa. Number 1 is Indonesia. (Source) Makati City tops Manila in the based on cities ranking. ^_^V

I’m going to school later. Probably. I feel so lazy and sleepy today. It could be because of the weather. *sighs* I’m not sure what time my professor will be at school. He’s usually late. ^^;

Gawd, I’m so sleepy. I plan on sleeping after this post. XDDD Yesterday we had band practice. EJ, the trombone player, and Jakki didn’t make it. I don’t have any idea if they knew of the practice. I asked Mac to take care of that. We only practiced for an hour and a half. We got a gig on the 25th this month. We might have another gig on the 16th, but I’m not sure if Rayton would be able to play. I’m thinking of asking one of guys in my thesis group. Hmm… Practice schedules are the only problem.
Rayton bought a kilo of fries, had one of our helpers fry it, and the four of us (Mac, Maru, me, and Rayton) ate it in less than 30 minutes. *lol* We were hungry. XD Mac also brought a kilo of fries last Thursday. I’ll be FATter than I already am. *dies*

Just one of those days/nights

I'm tired. As in, dead tired. If you have been reading my previous posts, you'll know why. Being a new mom to a young little baby does not actually mean I'm all blissed out by it. Since not all babies are the same (as with us adults), not all families get to sleep peacefully at night. And we are one them.

It's been almost five months now since I've had a decent sleep. By this I mean at least 8 hours of uninterrupted shut-eye. I've learned to be more awake instead because of Erin's erratic sleep pattern. During those rare instances when she does sleep well, I find myself wide awake, my entire body tense with absolutely random thoughts racing in my head. Maybe I am too tired to even sleep!

I have to give credit to J though. J can be quite a lifesaver when we're having another sleepless night episode. He takes charge of Erin and orders me to get some rest. He has gone from the clueless father who can barely hold her daughter because he is afraid he'll squish her tiny body to the daddy that can actually settle his kid and even get her to sleep when I can't. Yes, we are the ultimate tag team! :)

Anyway, I digress. Last Saturday night was one the worst because Erin was having trouble sleeping. Being puyat from Friday's "bout" (and from other nights), I just broke into tears in the midst of it all. J came in and took charge. It was 1:30 AM when I slept and woke up at around 5:30. I got up and saw Erin fast asleep on J's lap, while he was surfing the net to keep himself awake. He told me that he could still take care of Erin until 7AM just so I could rest. Awww... :) I took Erin from him and went to bed and just allowed him to sleep until noon.

Thank God for wonderful and thoughtful husbands! I cannot imagine new mothers who do not have support systems in times like these. No wonder postnatal depression is so common here as most parents in first world countries like here are on their own.

Speaking of husbands, happy anniversary Beh! It's been an awesome three years*. :) Three years pa lang pala. It feels like decades already.

* since we first got together.

Do you think well?

Consider this:

List all kinds of shoes.
List all available shoe color.
Give statistics for the number of each available combination that X number of women has.

Now would you solve this?  It looks simple, but really its the thought process that can tell whether your code is good or not.

Older!?!

chocolate cake

Care for some cake?

Well, ok, this wasn’t my birthday cake. But the idea came as an afterthought, after all of it was already gone. Right out of the blue, after quite a long hiatus, I felt the urge to write about the surprise party, the cake and the people who were with me. I was specially touched by the gesture, it made me hale and hearty enough to spring back from the slump and blog again.

I had no intention of making a fuss about turning older, I even dreaded the thought of it. I was cool with being 35 last year, but 36!?! How close is that to 75!?! I was hoping nobody would remember, except my family, of course. My father’s birthday comes the day after mine, and as he never enjoys parties, we both are used to celebrating it in silence. I was fine about the thought that it should be over soon without anyone noticing.

After spending the entire day at the clinic, I had a simple dinner with the family, brought some ice cream and then decided to go out. The city was peculiarly quiet for a Saturday night and I figured it must be because the usual night people were home for voters’ registration the previous day and were enjoying a longer weekend. As there’s nothing much to see or do, I opted to catch the last full show at the cinema and see Ratatouille, alone.

So they had to wait til past 9:00 o’clock. Good thing my sister-in-law baked. Her chocolate cake has made it to the local grapevine, and we heard even to the States (sent as a gift by a politician patron). The less discerning often gets it confused with that which is made by a popular caterer/bakeshop here, and only because it looks almost the same. Which she must change, should she decide to make a real business out of it. Because it tastes way better. At least they had something to do and talk about, the cake (I hope), and not me (don’t people just love talking about the one who isn’t there?).

So an impromptu party it was, when I came. I don’t believe Robert and Welmie from Pagadian City came just for it, but the thought of them remembering, going out of their way to gather a few others closest to me, and celebrate wasn’t bad at all. Marvin and Rosa Lyn took us to their new home and graciously hosted, giving the others a chance to see and admire it. Party fare was odd, we just dropped by the fruit stand for some jackfruit and buko (of all things!) and the nearest convenience store for some cheap wine and beer. Entertainment was videoke, the kids, and gossip.

So there. It was simple, it was brief. But it got us together after some time, to catch up on what’s new, and even had us recalling the old. No, that doesn’t refer to me, of course. :-)

Now that’s sexy news (no offense meant)

And talking about conflict of interest.

TV Station Reviews Reporter’s Actions
By Chicago Tribune

WMAQ-Ch. 5 executives on Tuesday continued to weigh what, if any, disciplinary action to take against reporter Amy Jacobson, seen on videotape in a swimsuit at the home of Craig Stebic, whose wife’s disappearance Jacobson has been covering.

Officials at rival station WBBM-Ch. 2, who had been debating since Friday whether they should air the tape, aired clips on Tuesday morning and posted a report on the station’s Web site after the tape’s existence was reported in the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times.

The tape appears to show Jacobson in a bikini top with a towel around her waist, as well as her children, at the Stebic home along with Stebic. Channel 2, which said the tape was shot Friday but did not say how it was acquired, also reported Stebic’s sister from Iowa was present.

Stebic’s wife, Lisa, 37, has been missing since April 30. The couple was in the process of divorcing and Lisa Stebic was moving to evict her husband from their Plainfield home on the day of her disappearance, the Chicago Tribune has previously reported.

The tape’s existence has been the talk of Chicago’s newsrooms, including Jacobson’s own, where she was asked to give her version of events to WMAQ President and General Manager Larry Wert, Vice President of News Frank Whittaker and News Director Camille Edwards. “The matter’s under review,” Channel 5 spokeswoman Toni Falvo said Monday.

When journalists sleep with their sources (and see you next time, Venus)

Posted by Bryanton Post on Sunday, August 5th, 2007 @ 11:24 am in Politics.

Sorry for my on-and-off posting activity. As I have been ranting in the past few months, work at the office has reached toxic levels -- toxic enough to completely miss some of the gimmicks I scheduled, the movies I planned to watch, the books I was supposed to read -- you get the picture. Well, at least now that the election monitoring project is gone (There's going to be a book launch on it on the 17th. Yipee!) and with only one story hanging for the August issue of the PJR Reports (note to self: Finish it tomorrow, you procrastinator!), I think I am going to be relatively relaxed these next few days. So God, please help me.

Aside from reminding myself to finish one story tomorrow, I also have to remember that Venus, a dear colleague and friend of mine, isn't going to be in the office anymore. Sigh. Venus was with the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) for some time now, and it's always sad when people in CMFR (like Nathan) whom you have become friends with leaves. I watched her grow in the office, that Venus. She started working with CMFR as an election monitoring project volunteer in 2004, and ironically, she's ending her stint in the office after doing a fantastic job in the 2007 election project. She has been a great colleague and friend, always filling the office with her cheerful and upbeat personality.

We had some photos taken last Friday, when the staff went out. Venus treated us to Colasa's and after a hearty dinner (with bowls of to-die-for bulalo and lots of liempo and barbecue servings), we proceeded to Aruego's to cap the night with a round of drinks and incessant videoke singing. Will post some of the pictures this week.

Sigh. I hope that last Friday's night-out with Venus won't be the last.

Moving on, here's an update on the controversial journalist who had a love affair with one of her sources.

Mayor's girlfriend is placed on leave

Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo placed newscaster Mirthala Salinas on paid leave Thursday while it carries out an investigation into whether she breached journalistic ethics by having a relationship with someone she covered: Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Salinas has been missing from her anchor chair on the 6 p.m. newscast for the last three nights, since news of the relationship broke. Telemundo's national newscast on Thursday evening aired a lengthy story about her removal.

"Given the seriousness of the allegations that have been made, we have decided to conduct an internal review of the decisions and events that led us to where we are today," said Manuel Abud, vice president and general manager of KVEA-TV. "In the meantime, Mirthala Salinas has been placed on a leave of absence from her duties pending this review. We will conduct this investigation with the utmost respect to personal privacy and journalistic standards."

Salinas, 35, defended her actions through a spokeswoman, voicing confidence that the internal probe would clear her of any ethical lapses.

And it was also the scheduled reunion with my HR colleagues from my former employer--- NEXTEL Communications Philippines, Inc. A company I joined some five years back... I chose

Not anyone can become a great artist but a great artist can come from anyone.

The Kilig Power (edited/revised/modified)

Shemai. La kwents leyst fost kye. Wiz lamench.  Le kwenty.

Nagtataka lang.

Ayon sa aking pagsasaliksik, ang salitang “kilig” ang pinakamakapangyarihang Filipino word. Why?

Subukan mong sabihin nang walang kasama, may kasama, at may kasamang dalawa. Yung intensity nung salita, sobrang lakas kahit wala ka namang tinutukoy.

Kilig. Ang gulo. Pag sinasabi mo ito, parang may dala itong suka na bigla na lang nakakabago ng itsura.

Bakit kaya walang unit of measurement ang kilig? Sa palagay ko, the word says it all.

Kilig

Gilik- tunog libog

iglik- Parang cebuano

Gikil- bold movie to, di ba?

iklig- tunog German

ikilg- ano ba yan? Miss beautiful, ang baya’y nagdilim.

Whenever. Whatever. However. Ever (gotesco).

Kilig.

Rock Star (Emo) haircut?

Posted by Pinoy Guy Guide on Sunday, August 5th, 2007 @ 12:09 am in Lifestyle.

So today, I went to have a haircut. While I was about to get a haircut, I asked my barber - "hey what style do you think is great for a guy these days?" Well he answered - a rockstar (emo) haircut. Unfortunately, this doesn't suit me as my hair is not that long but I thought why not feature it in Pinoy Guy Guide? Anyway the photos below is what my barber was describing in its simplest terms. It
