As I have mentioned earlier in a separate post, winter time is coming soon to an end for us people here in the southern hemisphere. Before you know it, it's Spring already! I'm also looking forward to the summer days because of the Christmas season. And you know what I love about it? You guessed it, shopping!
But hey, I am not talking about senseless impulsive shopping. It pays to be wise and get value for your money when you've got a massive list of things to buy. Making one's list far in advance is a good example of that because it prevents you from indulging in your impulses when you shop at the last minute. Another way is to collect coupons (like the ones in Couponchief.com) which could offer you huge discounts on several items that you're probably interested in.
I have yet to make my own shopping list. I'm not quite sure what items to get for my family this Christmas. Maybe I'll get J one of those books on programming he's been eyeing on at Amazon. As for little Erin, I may try to browse through Babycenter because sometimes they give out heaps of ideas there which are age-appropriate.
It's our first Christmas here in Oz so it's going to be pretty special. I better get a move on it now and make my list while there's time.

Again, I’ve decided to put up a separate blog for all my medical and health-related entries. I just notice that it can rather confuse readers as to the tone of my blog writing. So, since I started Prudence and Madness as a personal blog, I’ll retain it as a personal blog. For that health and medical aspect of my writing, these will have to be shunted to a separate blog so that readers who are more apt to read my medical opinions, they can just go to that health and medical blog and be spared of my personal rants.
And, no, this isn’t what my previous post is about. Making a medical and health blog isn’t feisty.
Here’s today’s entry in my new medical and health blog:
Season of the Leptospires
by Tess Termulo, M.D.
In as much that we welcome with open arms the palpable (and very wet) onslaught of the rainy season, which could be a solution to our present problem of water shortage, we should be wary that this, also, signals the beginning of the flood season. And for the medical clerks and interns in different institutions of healthcare, this means, not only a more difficult and dangerous trek going to duties, but also, more patients contracting leptospirosis that will be filling up the wards (from the medical school I came from, this case is rather common during the rainy days and is a favorite topic for edema rounds, admission conference, and even morbidity/mortality conferences).
For ordinary, non-medical people though, what should the word “leptospirosis” make them think?
Two words: Avoid floods.
To have further understanding why we should avoid getting caught in flood waters, let’s look further into the details of the disease.

Yes, I have finally given in. I have now hopped on the monetize-your-blog bandwagon like some of my fellow bloggers to earn some extra moolah. :) Now that Erin is a little bigger and more manageable, I realise I have more personal (and idle) time on my hands so that I can be more productive.
Enter Bloggerwave. It works pretty much the same way as the others who pay you while you blog about certain products and services. However, I discovered that they give feedback on approval/rejection of blogs upon submission very fast. This is great because once you get an email from them, you can immediately start on whatever you got planned next (whether to start working for them or moving on to another blog submission somewhere else). If you have spare time like I do, you may want to try Bloggerwave for yourself. I suggest you better get a move on it. Fast! :)
I'm sooo looking forward to the opportunities they offer. There is absolutely nothing to lose but definitely so much more to gain!

These days, for some reason, you cannot really fully give your trust to people you are not so close to. This especially applies when you have to deal with people in a business transaction. I honestly think that it pays to do a little research on the other party so that you know more or less what you’re getting into.
With internet access, this makes researching a whole lot easier. There are so many search engines that could help you out in this task but if you’re into finding out a specific company’s profile and are interested in the products and/or services they offer, you might want to check out Masterseek.
Masterseek is a global search engine that can provide you access to profiles of over 45 million companies in 75 countries. And the best part about it is it’s free! Not only that, if you’re a business owner, you can also submit your company’s profile for no charge at all if you list it manually. Now this is taking globalization a notch higher.

Our niece, C, just got her provisional driver's license last week. This was perfectly in time for her 18th birthday. I think it was the icing on her cake. At 18, she now has her own car (which she purchased months ago) and the license to drive it around town without any supervision. That is pretty cool when you're just a teen!
I hope she got herself one of those auto insurance plans. You never know when accidents may happen and it helps a lot if you got your car covered. Being a young adult, I'm sure she can get value for her money by doing some research on the internet and get several insurance quotes online. Who knows she might even find a teen driver's auto policy at a special rate.
Now that she's an adult, she better ready herself for all the responsibilities that lie ahead. Knowing her, I think there won't be a problem.

After days of agonizing whether my blog will get their approval or not, I finally got just today THE email to put all my misery to an end. Yes, Pay Per Post has given me their approval to write entries for them. In other words, I actually get paid to blog! Can you believe it? I am pinching myself to this moment because I still can't believe that it has finally happened. I guess all those prayers worked! :)
You may be wondering why I am so excited about all of this. I have seen quite a number of my fellow bloggers get into the PPP trend so I got curious about it. After studying the pro's and con's, I have to admit there is nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain when you are being paid to write about the things that you love in life. The decision to sign up with Pay Per Post was a no brainer.
I have been honest about my decision to turn this into a money-making blog so expect to see some blog ads from time to time. These days, it is good if you get to earn a little cash on the side to supplement your main income. At least, you have some extra moolah to use if the need arises. You never know when that time will come.
Thanks PPP for this opportunity! :)

Yipee! 100,000 hits to date and still counting! Thank you to everyone who frequented (and still frequent) my blog, to those who so persistently went through my quirky entries, the sentimental (and hopefully enlightening) articles… the occasional rants and raves… and the every so often nonsense which some of you put up with.
To those who took the time to drop me a line and to a whole bunch of old and new friends who supported my site and added me to their blogroll… thank you very much!
To the next 100,000 hits… Cheers!

The principles of Sterile Technique are applied in various ways. If the principle itself is
understood the applications of it become obvious. Strict aseptic technique is needed at all times
in the Operating Room.
1. All articles used in an operation have been sterilized previously.
2. Persons who are sterile touch only sterile articles; persons who are not sterile touch only
unsterile articles.

Such is the state of life, that none are happy but by the anticipation of change: the change itself is nothing; when we have made it, the next wish is to change again. The world is not yet exhausted; let me see something tomorrow which I never saw before. –Samuel Johnson
It’s been too long enough that I dwelt in the thick slush that is the seriousness of the posts I have in this blog. For two years of blogging in here, I’ve known every nook and cranny, received the most scathing comments and the most encouraging and constructive ones, met a guy who made me feel right again, only to be left hanging in mid-air and soon crashing down the rock grounds of reality, and rise again and again.
And now, I’m bored.
But don’t worry. I ain’t leaving. It’s just that I’ve got my sights on something new..and a little feisty.

The patient's needs and wound characteristics will determine which
kind of dressing to use on a wound. Here's an overview of common
dressing types.
• Gauze dressings: Gauze dressings are permeable to water,
water vapor, and oxygen. When uncertain about which dressing
to use, apply a gauze dressing moistened in saline solution until
a wound specialist recommends treatment.
• Hydrocolloid
