What the World Needs…

Posted by A Bunch of Dreams (Isang Bungkos Na Pangarap) on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 11:16 pm in Miscellaneous.

I would like to share the following which I am sure would somehow give at least a mark in our hearts...In today's world, I am sure these are just what we need. The world needs men - who cannot be bought; - whose word is their bond; - who put character above wealth; - who possess opinions and a will; - who are larger than their vocations; - who do not hesitate to take chances; - who

Filipino food chain Jolibee advertising on MSN Messenger. Are you kidding me?

Posted by Kirbitz on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 7:10 pm in Miscellaneous.

Ive just noticed this a while ago while checking out MSN. Its very seldom that i use it but the ads below the window really gets my attention and when i got to use it earlier. Low and behold. I noticed this very familiar tagline.

"Crispylicious, Juicylicious CHIKENJOY!"

My initial reaction was, "Are you kidding me?!? Jolibee on MSN Messenger?". Ive got no choice but to click and find out for myself. And there it was, my intuition didnt fail me. (It never fails me.hehe) I saw the familiar mascot of Jolibee Himself. And i was taken to the home page.

I could only stand in awe and admiration to this company. Ever since i was a child, i never even gave Mcdonalds a chance against them. I always love the chickenjoy and the swirly bitz. This is another reason that my blog is named as such. Kirbitz and Swirly Bitz-- Does all the difference!

For all of you guys who dont know Jollibee, its the number one food chain in the Philippines and well, Mcdonalds is not far behind. This ad jsut goes to show that this food chain is out to conquer more barriers, more boundaries. Much like what Kirbitz is doing now. With shear effort and dedication, we can do this!

Onward Pinoy!

Stamp

Posted by differentials on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 12:13 pm in Personal - Philippines.

I think I’ve been watching too much TV. It was about that narration of a woman continuously overshadowing the events of a day… the endless blabbering of someone who thinks she has so much insight into human nature… the eternal wondering out loud…

So here goes:

It hit me. I was supposed to be moving on. It was a good turning point. I am officially out of the student way. I am a newly-licensed physician who has to make real life work. The timing has always given me enough distractions to help with my moving on… then, there he was offering me a nice doctor’s “stamp”. That stamp you’d have to use in every prescription or probably every order that you’d have to make each and every day. Stamp. Stamp. Stamp. I was terrified at the whole idea of being reminded of him everyday. He insisted on giving me the stamp.

I told him, “you really like torturing me, huh?”

He said, “No. You’ll forget it. And when you find a new lover, then trash it…”

It just struck me. It was charity stamped all over it. The stamp will keep me company, while I’m still feeling so…

Damn. I’m a sad story. I guess, it is time to trash that little sad part… for real.

Here, let me get an “urgent” stamp on that.

When you actually realize that you’re getting older…

Posted by Paranoid Thinker on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 8:46 am in Personal - Philippines.

I rarely think about getting older. What with my "take it as it goes" thinking which often leads me to cram even though I really hate the idea, Well, it doesn't leave much else to think about. Except of course, when circumstances leave you with heaps of free time like now. Thanks to a certain typhoon (supertyphoon really) who shall remain nameless, from Wednesday up till the day after tomorrow (pun intended), I don't have classes.

The last time this happened, well, there actually WERE classes, no matter how hard it was to get to school (there was no electricity and running water at home at that time so thanks big-time to the person who took me in. You know who you are...) and lets just say, I had a much easier time now. Then again, said typhoon (who still shall remain nameless) did not hit directly like the last time.

Anyway, yesterday, I became painfully aware that I definitely am getting old. And not just because my age no longer bears the "teen" suffix. I was supposed to get my license yesterday. Because of stupid idiotic circumstances beyond my control (and knowledge in fact), I was unable to get that done. Even worse, the person whom I was supposed to talk to (girl estimated to be in her mid-twenties) had an irritable temper like the weather that day. The older woman I talked to after her was much better to talk to (renewed respect for elders that day).

Seeing as no matter what I did, I wouldn't get my license that day, I decided to at least making the day productive by making a small deposit. Productive it was. I was able to make a deposit but before that, I had to go through a few puddles. Yes, puddles that were as deep as my foot, add to that the swarm of cars speeding by and you've got yourself an instant "people-wash". Hence, I looked like a person who just got out of the shower with his clothes on. I'm sure the people in the bank understood. I can't let the stuff inside my bag get wet anyway. Did I mention that the water in the "people-wash part 1" was a murky brown? After the bank trip, it was another "people-wash" to get to the mall. At least the second time, the water was a bit clearer.

The mall was the normal hustle-and-bustle you would normally see on a Sunday. Why wouldn't it be? No classes for students and some workers, half-day for some of the rest, most of them apparently took to shopping to forget the rain. So there I was, walking around in my lonesome, thinking of a way to get dry without catching a cold. Oh yeah. Smart Telecommunications recently launched their DVB-H (mobile TV) service called myTV. I'm not gonna tackle that here though. The part I want to talk about is the part where people approach you about the new services they offer. At other times, its insurance, credit cards, you know, the works.

What makes me realize that I'm getting older is that they don't entertain kids. I've been there. Most of the people in exhibits (except kid-related exhibits) would have less patience talking to kids than adults. Probably since its usually the adults that carry the cash. Thing is, I don't know if anyone realizes this, but customer-care centers expect the customer to be a grown-up. Don't believe me? I shall then provide a sample dialogue from three years ago:

sometime 3 years ago (concern about malfunctioning phone)
(previous dialogue was about details regarding said phone)
customer care person (ccp [no relation to CCP in Roxas]): Sir, before we continue, may I ask your age?
me: Age? I'm seventeen.
ccp: Really? 17 ka pa lang? (tone changes slightly)
me: Yep. So, about the phone...

Not like that's going to happen again anytime soon. Back to the story.

I don't know how being drenched in the rain made me look. But apparently, it made people think I had a lot of moolah on my hands. The girls demoing the mobile TV service was all over getting me to sign-up for a line. Well, as long as she's interested, no harm in talking right? I managed to learn enough to figure out that the service is not for me yet. Although the channels are interesting, I don't log-in too many hours in front of the tube. Not bad to talk to though.

For that day, there were two final major symptoms that I'm getting older. First is the persistent pain in my foot which I would guess is from walking around in flat slippers and flooded walkways all day, and the fact that I chipped my tooth over lunch which meant I needed an emergency dentist appointment (thanks to Dentista.inc for my dental work)

That was probably the worst day of my life so far. Which reminded me that I said that line many times before, so I really am getting older. But the pain from the dentist's chair really hit the mark. No matter, the dentist was good. Teeth hurt no more.

By the way, today, my birthday was pretty uneventful. Which is great considering what happened yesterday. Thanks to all the people who greeted me, some I never even realized would remember. Still, that simple greeting made me smile a little bit more today.

(By the way, I really am laughing over most of what happened yesterday. Except for the not getting my license part grrr... since I didn't get sick over being soaked to the bone in an air-conditioned mall) Hehehehe....

Must Have Been 3 Months…

Posted by Must Be That Girl! on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 4:32 am in Personal - Philippines.

Must have been 3 months since I posted my last entry. And I think that's quite a long time really. Yeah, I truly missed tinkering with my blog. The feeling is like leaving home for a little while, and coming back. And you are greeted with mixed feelings of familiarity and unfamiliarity, of a certain sadness and a little joy, and a whole lot more... The feeling I guess is more like coming back from a vacation and wanting to clean your room so it will go back to that state you left it in... crazy? I hope not. Okay then, let's rock and roll! Start things rolling once more...

The Blog-Lynching of Malu Fernandez

Posted by Everywhere and Here on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 3:25 am in Personal - Philippines.

I’m back from outerspace. Or shall I say, “earth-dwelling”, in the words of my Twitter friend, Kevin M. Keating. That’s not entirely true though since I have been finding the time to update my other blogs. Mea culpa.

I’m still in the process of defining what it is I want to say here on my WordPress. I revamped my categories to free me from my self-imposed restrictions. Out of all the blogs I maintain, I feel that here is where I want to be the most “serious”. Then again, one should not take oneself too seriously. Life is too short.

Before I jump back into The Radio Files series that was rudely interrupted by life and work, there’s one topic I wanted to go off on. Countless blogs from the Philippines and Filipinos all over the globe have contributed to the space in cyberspace labelled “Malu Fernandez Hatred“. I wanted to put my two centavo thoughts into the fray.

Night Safari Singapore

Posted by Culture Shiok! Singapore OFW on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 1:33 am in Personal - International.

If the faux-spooky feeling that the animals could pounce at you any time isn't enough reason to pay for the cab ride out there, the tram tour guides' overly dramatic delivery delivery definitely is. Anyway, if you're already planning to go to the Singapore Zoo, you might as well include the Night Safari in your itinerary as it is just next door.

The Singapore Night Safari is the first zoo where you can creep around in the dark and spy on tigers, elephants, lions and numerous smaller four-legged surprises, carefully lit by just enough light for us see them but for them to still think it's night time. It's a unique experience, so instead of wandering around a normal zoo during the daytime and watching weary creatures snoozing in the corner, you can see what their doing at night.

This premier night zoo houses over 1000 animals of 120 exotic species in eight zones re-created to simulate geographic zones like the Southeast Asian rain forest, African savanna, Nepalese river valley, South American pampas and Burmese jungle.

Strike out on your own along the walking trail or relax in a tram ride - whichever you choose, works on the sensible principle that some animals are more active at night.

I suggest you take the tram ride first when they open at 6 pm to get a feel of the dark environment. After the ride, immediately queue up for the Creatures of the Night Show. The show is postponed when it's raining. You can spend the rest of the night exploring the trails that you will see during the tram ride. If it's raining, you'll miss the show and you can't explore the trails and you won't be able to see the animals up close.

You can also watch the tribal dance performances, eat at the Ulu Ulu Safari Restaurant (the tribal dancers will go and disturb you while you're eating if no one is watching them in the show area), go shopping for souvenirs and take photos.

Do bring you insect repellents to keep harmful insect at bay. You can also bring your umbrellas and jackets. The walking trails are adequately lighted so torchlights are not required; bringing them is also not advised as some are tempted to point them at the night animals which is a big no no.

Night Safari is a wild adventure (don't forget the tram tour guides!) not to be missed.

That Multiply layout almost killed me Ugh~

Posted by HyukTa.net on Saturday, August 18th, 2007 @ 1:15 am in Personal - Philippines.

When will this tiredness go away? X_X I try to sleep longer, but the most hours I get is either 4 or 6. I feel weak and I’m always hungry, dammit. Anyway, I worked on my Multiply layout since Thursday morning til yesterday (yeah, effin’ 2 days). I got my lazy ass to do it. I was debating on whether I should use my old layout or create a new one. I’ll probably use my old layout next time — in 10 years or so. *lol* Thank goodness Firefox has an undo function. XP I made slight changes earlier. I forgot to make a back-up of what I edited in Multiply’s CSS editor last night. I replaced it with the old CSS file that made my layout look fugly again. ~_~ Just fixed it already though. The site looks slightly different when you’re logged in (that is, if you have an account). Preview images are in my DA accountguest view and users view. ^_^ Input please? I still have to fix some of the CSS for the photos page, btw.

I hope the pictures show up. O_o

I uploaded in my MF account the MT Installation/Upgrade Guide, MT User and Administration Manual, the police report on Lindsay Lohan re car chase, and 24 various DOUJINSHI! The 24 various doujinshi is in celebration of my birthday. ^_^ I failed to mention this before before. I wanted to blog about it after I was done uploading, but I got lazy and tired at the same time so I didn’t bother. XD The other download links are very random. Haha~ I uploaded them before I remove them off my HD in case someone is interested. You have to get the 24 doujinshi downloads in just say goodbye though. Posting every single link in the site and in the LO Forum already wore me out. ^_^V
