Pinoy Ako! Wordpress Pinoy Bloggers, Sali Na!

Posted by Nakanampucha! on Monday, August 20th, 2007 @ 3:18 pm in Humor.

Hello people!  We recently put up a group for Wordpress.Com and Wordpress.Org Pinoy Bloggers… We figured, we’ve been posting comments on each other’s blogs, sharing jokes, sympathizing with each other’s struggles and challenges, laughing and sharing on other’s triumphs, but never really get to interact more than we actually can.

But (hopefully) with the help of this new group called, “Wordpress Pinoys”, we can probably make our community tighter… mas “SOLID” kumbaga.  Please invite your other Pinoy Wordpress bloggers to join the group so that those whom others haven’t met can get acquainted with one another.

We can do a whole lot with this group… we can start organizing events, eyeballs, get-togethers, and even find new ways to drive traffic to each others blogs!

I really hope we can all gather around this idea and help the group flourish… and expand.  If we can really make this an entire Pinoy Wordpress network, we can probably even have Wordpress-sanctioned Pinoy events in the future!

So… if you’re a Filipino and you happen to have a blog here at Wordpress.Com or manage your own blog powered by Wordpress.Org then click the image below and join the group!  We’d love to meet (and have) new members!

After signing up, if it isn’t too much trouble… please use the image above and kindly post it on your Wordpress sidebar and link it to the group’s site located at:  http://groups.google.com/group/wordpress-pinoys

Kaya sali na!  Hope to see you all there soon!

BlogRoll-over to my Top Menu

Posted by Kirbitz on Monday, August 20th, 2007 @ 9:28 am in Miscellaneous.

This post is just to tell my blogging friends in my blogroll that im transferring the list over to another page. This is to make a better looking sidebar. I think it would be beneficial for everyone since it gets to be added on my top menu itempage and labelled as "My Blogroll". This way, readers and visitors will be more aware of it.

Im going to make this a temporary change. After a month or so, i will evaluate it if it served its purpose. And if not, im going to work things out.

Im still in the painstaking process of tweaking my template. Its tough if you only know the very basic of html. But well see how it looks like.

If you want to have a link-exchange with Kirbitz, this blog is open to everyone without particular preference. . Just contact me.

The Malu Fernandez controversy

Posted by Bryanton Post on Monday, August 20th, 2007 @ 7:04 am in Politics.

I'm technically busy at the moment, watching endlessly episodes of NBN'4's Primetime Teledyaryo and surfing the Net on the side. Meanwhile, the latest issue to hit the blogosphere continues to rage -- in fact, I'm probably quite late in posting this.

Here's a comprehensive post on the whole Malu Fernandez controversy:

Malu Fernandez, Manila Standard Today, Bigotry In The Media
Source: Tingog.com

With the recent irresponsible, elitist, bigoted, and discriminating comments made by Manila Standard Today columnist Malu Fernandez in her People Asia magazine article “From Boracay to Greece” in which she makes many belittling comments about Overseas Filipino Workers and Filipinos in general, the response from Filipino bloggers have been overwhelming, and have not been light on the criticism. When do we say enough is enough and that we will no longer stand for the bigotry and discrimination that takes place, not only in this country but all around the world?

For her part, in her “apology”, Malu Fernandez addressed the emails responding to her article. However, the apology, was nothing more than another attempt to take a jab at Filipinos and to once again assert that she’s an elite that those in lower socioeconomic classes just fail to understand or comprehend her “wit”.

Read more here. One quick note: I think the last time a columnist got flak from readers was Isagani Cruz of the Philippine Daily Inquirer who stirred public criticism for a piece he wrote about homosexuals.

Will Standard Today follow the massive public outcry to fire Fernandez, or will the paper keep her to boost circulation (Striking while the iron is hot)?

La lune, trop blême, (the moon, too white)
pose un diadème (puts a tiara)
sur tes cheveux roux. (on your red hair)
La lune, trop rousse, (the moon, too red)
de gloire éclabousse (with glory splashes)
ton jupon plein de trous. (your ragged underskirt)
La lune, trop pâle, (the moon, too pale)
caresse l’opale (caress the opal)
de tes yeux blasés. (of your indifferent eyes)
Princesse de la rue, (princess of the streets)
sois la bienvenue (be welcome)
dans mon coeur brisé. (in my broken heart)…

- lyrics taken from Complainte de la Butte, by Rufus Wainwright

There are instances when we are caught unaware, we never see them coming. We may half expect but hope they never happen, because we have preconceived prejudice against certain experiences, people and things, and we try to veer away. As much as we can, we try not to associate with these.

Such instances when the more you try to find reasons to avoid, the harder it gets to dismiss. We learn to understand, let go of bias, to forgive and see beyond what the eyes can tell, and appreciate how differences may complement the seeming perfection we are familiar and comfortable with.

Such as falling in love.

Inquirer Article

I’d like to thank “Rito Asilo” for posting a wonderful article on last Sunday’s edition of The “Daily Inquirer” (print and online versions).  The article’s main topic was all about Sarah Geronimo’s latest album, “Taking Flight”, but on the last paragraph of the writeup, Rito made special mention of how I, in his own words, “reinvented my artistic persona”…

Rito, thank you for the writeup.  Much appreciated!

Keeping up

Posted by Top Dog on Monday, August 20th, 2007 @ 2:59 am in Personal - Philippines.

This will be a very very long weekend. The damage so far: Perfect Stranger. The Bourne Supremacy. Fracture. New seasons of The Hills and Newport Harbor. Final season of The Simple Life. And two seasons of my new obsession, Kyle XY.

Yes, after all the hell that has happened to me the past few weeks, I need to detox. I need something wholesome - Kyle XY.

On another note, is it just me, or is high school not even remotely as exciting as what Laguna Beach and Newport Harbor portray?

Update: Also saw 300, Apocalypto, Shooter, and Vacancy.

Posted by "Travel blogging? Is that thing still around?" on Monday, August 20th, 2007 @ 1:45 am in Personal - Philippines.

I love my shot of this Cathay Pacific Boeing 777 with Rolls Royce engine

This is the vacation alphabet:

V
is for Vacating my office space for a few days.
A is for Abdicate or relinquishing the daily grind.
C is for Canceling or putting on-hold all calls, emails and blogging.
A is for Absent, with pay of course.
T is for The pasalubong, if there's any (how my friends wish it).
I is for Intermission, will 4 days suffice?
O
is for Old photographs goodbye, welcome new photographs.
N is for Navigation and searches, the leisurely kind.

I'm now excited to go back to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia this coming weekend. The country will celebrate its 50th Independence Day so activities abound throughout the country particularly in the capital city. I and my friend will be returning in that city with no concrete plans what to do or where to go which is my best kind of holiday. I will just let my feet do the walking and brain do the thinking on what to do and eat.

See you soon...
