Bloggers Invade Tasta Asia Again (And The After-Party Party)

And this time, I get to take home some goodies.

Oh, there were some kikay stuff with it, too, and some grocery items. But I didn’t include them in the picture anymore because I gave them to my mom already. And it’s good that there were Coke glass splinter showers no more.

Although still febrile due to ATP or Acute Tonsillopharyngitis (and not because of what you are thinking), I joined the other bloggers in invading Taste Asia for the second time for the announcement of SM Hypermarket’s Blog Writing Contest last night, August 23. There may have been a hundred or more bloggers who attended the event. Most, I’m sure, were eagerly anticipating the Cliquebooth and the Chocolate Fountain (and loads of free alcoholic beverages). The Chocolate Fountain was absent from the event though (and Ganns was irked about not being able to satisfy his daily sugar requirement) . But the ever-popular Cliquebooth was back for another stint. Bloggers are just so into camwhoring. Don’t believe me? Go check which group of bloggers have the most number of photos at the Cliquebooth site.

Here are some of our photos:

It was fun meeting the following people again (and some, for the first time): Jake (the first person I saw, going the opposite direction of Taste Asia), Karlo (the first person I saw at Taste Asia), Allen, Jeff, Ganns (why can’t I lose weight like you?), Chris (you caught me in the act!) and Apples Haravata, Benj (rising TV celebrity), Allan (who forgot he had to leave as early as 9 pm because maybe he enjoyed our company too much), Eric (Puedeng puede, ‘di ba?), Darwin (sorry I don’t have the wet ones again), Geri, Jayvee (I love the pink shirt), Jehz (I thought you’re supposed to look older), Joe (thanks for lending me your lighter! You’re a life saver!), JP, Sir Jun, Lauren (who looked fabulous wearing her red WP shirt), Jon Limjap (we meet at last! You’re like a comment away from beating Benj as my blog’s top commenter), L.A. (fresh from school), Marghil, Paul, Tew, Marcelle, Yatot (Promise! I’m really a doctor!), Shari (Late!), AJ (I like your style!), Adam Mordo, Ade (the haircut looks nice, you don’t have to kill the poor barber…or did you already?), and Fritz.

And, yes, I saw my crush and I did get to talk to him.

By the way, congratulations to the following winners of the SM Hypermarket Blog Writing Contest:

Grand Prize (trip for 2 to Kuala Lumpur) - Anitokid
1st Runner Up (Sanyo digital camera) - Anton Diaz

Winners of a DVD Player

Winners of the Nike Sunglasses

And thanks to Ms. Aileen Apolo for letting us, bloggers, be part of this event. :-)

The party ended a bit early and the place got emptied of guests gradually until about 1 a.m. when the last of the bloggers, finally, left and allowed the Taste Asia staff to clean and arrange things.

And because school is just school and work is but a hindrance to living life, Karlo, JP, Allen, AJ, Jehzreel, Benj (too bad he had to leave early, though), and I refused to go home yet and went to Starbucks at Blue Wave for a bit of caffeine shake-up (and a slice of sugar rush). We talked about a lot of online and offline stuff. Of course, the Malu Fernandez topic was still hot (though I’m a bit confused about the resignation part. It just came a bit too soon). We talked about the difference and similarities of online and offline identities. Also, we’re persistently egging Karlo to do a particular dare, but I think he did good by not doing so, because, otherwise, it’s just going to fan the already-dying flames. And, yup, a lot of movie spoilers came around. Good thing I don’t mind spoilers that much (I’ll still watch those movies!). Other stuff are already the “unbloggables”. Too bad L.A. wasn’t there. I’d love to grill him with some questions.

At around 3:45 a.m., when all the night-shift barristas have gone and only the manong guard was left to keep us company, we finally decided to call it a night (or a day?). I rode a taxi to get home to my aunt’s house in Mandaluyong, wherein I already found her up and about, cooking breakfast. I don’t know how the other guys were able to go home, though. At least we’re not dead drunk. But, really, we should have gone beer-drinking because some didn’t go to their morning class anyway (hello Karlo!).

This is what I like about attending blogger events. I get to meet in the real world all those bloggers I’ve been following in cyberspace and know more about them, which perhaps could be more or less reflective of the reasons why they wrote those stuff in their blogs. And it’s my only chance to see my crush in person  . Blogger romance, according to Jon Limjap. Well, though I had a not so good experience having a relationship with another blogger, I’m not completely eliminating the possibility of having another go at it with another blogger. After all, the relationship didn’t work out not because we’re both bloggers but because of something else.

But, wait, why did I end up talking about my love life?

All I want to say is: I can hardly wait for the next blogger event!

Am I worried about the future of the newspaper industry? No, because as an artist, I find that literature is its own reward. I care only for the pitch, roll and yaw, the warp and the woof - the yipping and the twittering - of our beautiful language.

But corporate realities are getting harsh around here, and thus I've decided to blog a lot more about sexual deviancy, inebriated starlets, "American Idol" rejects, unlikely but theoretically possible natural catastrophes, and pets in distress. In the future all my blog entries will have headlines such as "Britney Menaced by Sharks." No, wait: "Britney's Dog Menaced by Sharks."

Untrue, but think of the eyeballs!

Newspaper journalism is different these days: Suddenly everyone is obsessed with eyeballs, page views, "stickiness," "click-through rates," and so on. No one shouts "Stop the presses!" anymore, but they do whimper "Why aren't I on the home page?" The noble product that we manufacture and distribute throughout the metropolis - the physical thing so carefully designed, folded and bagged - is now generally referred to in our business as the "dead-tree edition." It gets little respect.

US demand for nurses to remain high in next decade--official
By Nikko DizonInquirerLast updated 08:37pm (Mla time) 08/23/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- The demand for nurses in the United States will remain high for the next 10 years, according to an official of the US National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). An initial group of examinees took the National Council Licensure Examination at the first NCLEX testing center in the country on Thursday. "The nursing shortage is still significant and research still indicates that there is a future anticipated shortfall of more than a million nurses in the US," Casey Marks, NCSBN associate executive director, told reporters in an interview. The shortage is worldwide, according to Marks. In the US -- a preferred destination of many Filipino nurses -- "there is certainly a significant demand for a long period of time," he said. With opportunities looming ahead, Marks said he would encourage more Filipinos to take up nursing as a profession. "That's one of the reasons we are here," added Robert Whelan, president of Pearson Vue, which owns and operates NCLEX testing centers in various parts of the world, including the first center in the Philippines, located at the Trident Towers on Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.

A Love Story… (Part 2)

This is part two of “A Love Story” which was posted a week ago.  Enjoy!

A Love Story… (Part2)

I thought Jay’s ex-girlfriend was really out of our lives. But heaven only goes that I was wrong. Kakakasal pa lang namin nun when Jay received a uninamous text. “Meet me at the clinic.” I had a stinking feeling in my butt. I told him not to go. It might in danger him. Pero sabi niya, ok lang daw because life is what we make. Tumahimik lang ako. Sabi niya, “Penny for you talks.” But I didn’t know what to say. Beggars can’t be losers. Isa pa, worried talaga ako na baka yung girl yun. Jay said, “Can’t got your tongue?” I tried to smile at him. Kahit di ako nagsalita, actions speak louder than works, di ba?

Be that as is may, umalis pa rin siya. I was out of the loophole. After a few hours, I called him on his cellphone. But my calls fell on Jeff’s ears. Lalo akong nag-worry kasi I didn’t even know Jeff. Sabi na nga ba di na dapat umalis si Jay. That’s what I’m talking about it.

So I tried calling some friends who will help me find Jay. That’s what friends are for naman di ba? But I just faced a blank mall. I had to do this alone. Nag-taxi na lang ako. Pero ang mahal na pala ng plug down rate.

When I got to the clinic, the security was really buffed up. Di basta-basta makakapasok. So I said, “I beg your cordon. I’m patient. It’s my favorite virtue nga e.” Nagduda yata yung isang guard. Hinawakan ako sa arm. The nerd! I shouted, “Don’t touch me not!” Buti na lang the other guards were nice and said, “Come on, let’s join us.”

When I went inside, parang I’ve been there, done there. Nung walang nakatingin, nag-explore ako. Nakarating ako sa top floor and I had a bird’s IQ of the clinic. I could not explain it but I was drawn to a room on the floor. Siguro Divine Intermission na yun.

Parang may narinig akong umuungol. I was thorn. Di ko alam kung aalis ba ako o papasukin ko. It made me stick in the stomach to think that Jay and his ex-girlfriend were there. I tried to tell myself to slower my expectations. But to tell with it! I had to strike while the iron is not. I had to hear the truth from the corpse’s mouth. I barraged in. O my gas! Si Jay, naka-strap sa operating table, parang genie pig sa isang nakakatakot na experiment. He was on the cutting edge. He was bleeding. At ang doctor na nagpapahirap sa kanya, ang ex-girlfriend niya at ang bago nitong boyfriend, ang nurse na si Walter.  Doon ko napatunayang blood is thicker than Walter.

Guess watch? Di ko alam kung paano ko nagawa pero I was able to search and rescue Jay. Siguro adrenaline brush na yun.

Now, he’s recovering. Nag-sorry siya na hindi siya nakinig sa akin. I know it’s a better pill to swallow your fried so it’s forgive and forget me not. All swell that end swell. I know we should kiss and put on makeup.

Ang ex-girlfriend naman niya at si Walter, nakakulong na. Detention is really better than cure. So the moral of the lesson is: if symptoms persist, insult your doctor.
