Probably the most easily recognizable part of Singapore, this famous stretch of shopping malls and entertainment centers was, in the 1800s, an area for nutmeg and pepper plantations and fruit orchards, hence, the name Orchard Road.

Orchard Road is a one-way street. It starts at the intersection with Orange Grove Road which is the location of the Orchard Hotel, near the Singapore Botanic Gardens. It then stretches southeast across the Scotts Road/Paterson Hill intersection, Orchard MRT Station, Bideford Road, Somerset MRT Station, Central Expressway (CTE), Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station and ends at the intersection with Handy Road (just before Prinsep Street), where it becomes Bras Basah Road.

Orchard Road contains numerous upmarket restaurants, coffee chains, cafes, nughtclubs, and hotels. It is also the site of the official residence of the President of Singapore, the Istana.
