Surprises

Posted by A Matter of Perspective on Monday, October 8th, 2007 @ 10:42 pm in Personal - International.

I love surprises. But, only the pleasant ones, of course! :)

This morning, the mailman handed over to me three parcels which came from our relatives in the States (J's uncle, to be exact).

They were all addressed to J and me, but we knew they were all for the little girl. :)

Thank you, Tita A and Tito E for all the wonderful pressies! :)

And just when I thought that that was the end of our excitement for the day, I heard another knock on the door. It was the mailman once again. He forgot to drop off a bigger package that was still addressed to us.

And yes, it was again for Erin. This bub sure is getting spoilt! :D

Gift Ideas

Posted by A Matter of Perspective on Monday, October 8th, 2007 @ 9:24 pm in Personal - International.

Now that Christmas is just a couple of months away, it is wise to start drawing up your shopping list for your loved ones as early as you can to save yourself from the hassle of the holiday rush. I say this because in the long run, you won't be buying impulsively, thus, saving you heaps of dollars.

As for ideas on what to give, I think Personalized Gifts are a great way to go. I've done this over the years, and I noticed that people who received such presents from me seem to appreciate it more because it was specially made for them. So, you really cannot go wrong with them, if you ask me.

How to maximize the use of your Casio 991MS Calculator

Posted by Batang Yagit on Monday, October 8th, 2007 @ 9:17 am in Personal - Philippines.

As engineering students, part of our i-use-everyday-stuff is the calculator. You'd surely fail if you don't have one. But sometimes, getting bored in class is inevitable. One must find ways to dig some fun during classes.

We have deviced several tricks how you could maximize the use of your Casio 991MS calculator in a fun way.

    The Number Game

You can use the Random Number feature of the calculator to generate random number. By multiplying the random number by 10 and setting FIX parameter to 0, we can get a single-digit whole number which we can use for a number guessing game.

You can increase the number of output digits by increasing the number of zeros in the multiplier.

    The Betting Game

Ohhh.. this one's not good but we're looking at it as a possibility. You can use the technique I mentioned above and do some slight modifications. Let's say, the person who get a bigger output gets the pot.

Hahaha. nah! You can't possibly do this while having classes.

    The Fastest Finger

This game test which person has the fastest key-press speed. The person with most key press made wins. The number of key press made is determined by the counter (answer).

This can be done by first pressing 0 and the = keys. Next is to enter Ans + 1. To start the game, the users should continuously press the = sign until the alloted time is up.

    For Messaging

Since talking in class or using the mobile phone is prohibited, why not use your calculator?

You can use the symbols, constants, formulas, and functions innate on your calculator to form words and phrases which you could pass on your seat mate. Hehehe.. it's very useful in those boring moments.

These are just some of the calculator tricks we know. If you can share a new one, please leave a comment. Let's make dull moments fun.

    Online Shopping

Posted by A Matter of Perspective on Monday, October 8th, 2007 @ 1:45 am in Personal - International.

I have been talking about shopping online quite a lot. I think it is just one of the best things that the world wide web has to offer -- shopping in the comforts of your own home.

So what makes it more convenient for both customer and merchant? It is none other than the installation of a shopping cart software on your favorite online store. It is an ecommerce software which enables you to pick your preferred items on the internet and load them all into your shopping cart for checkout and payment at the end of your transaction.

If you want to have a business on the web, creating an online store using a shopping cart software (like the one by ashop) is so easy because they do all the hard work for you as it is web-based. What is best about it is that it is fully customizable so it will cater to your every need.

    Book Heaven

Posted by A Matter of Perspective on Monday, October 8th, 2007 @ 12:56 am in Personal - International.

Ayayay... I am just a weakling when it comes to books, especially when they are on my most wanted list!

Yesterday, we went to Big W to do a little shopping. I had already one book in mind, which I had decided to purchase a week ago after losing it in an auction on eBay. But, lo and behold, we discovered that they were putting up a lot of their books on sale. And I'm not talking itty-bitty discounts here. It was a huge 35% off! I was desperately trying to keep true to my one-book-limit. That is until I saw Sara Gruen's Water for Elephants in the bottom shelf. You see, I have been searching for this book for some time now.

J must have seen the sheer desperation in my eyes, as I kept looking back at the shelves while we were walking away. I was also mumbling that I probably wouldn't be able to get any sleep at all that night. Finally, he uttered, "Kunin mo na! (Get it already!)"

I was delighted, of course, to hear these words. But I was also ashamed that I had given in, once again, to my addiction. In return, I promised J I'll stay clear of all those book shops in the coming weeks. Well, I'll try. Easier said than done! :P
