Calinan is just one of the few rural districts in Davao City. It's located at the northern part of city. It's about an hour ride from the metro. We took the bus in going to Kuya Ayan's place.
We arrived at our destination just in time for lunch. After having lunch, we went to the hills. It's a few minute walk from their house. The climb up the hill reminded me of our climb in one of the hills in Camiguin during our trip there last summer.
After climbing hills, we went back downtown since we were running out of time for an engagement we are attending.
We arrived downtown around 6p.m and we're already an hour late for our 5p.m. appointment, which is Nemia's debut.
Ever wondered what Kinesio Taping was all about? It was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in Japan some 25 years ago. According to KinesioTaping.com, it involves:
… taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support or to prevent over-contraction. The first technique gives the practitioner the opportunity to actually give support while maintaining full range of motion, enabling the individual to participate in physical activity with functional assistance. The second technique helps prevent overuse or over-contraction and helps provide facilitation of lymph flow 24 hours per day. It is most commonly used in the acute stage of rehabilitation. Correctional techniques include mechanical, lymphatic, ligament / tendon, fascia, space, and functional. Kinesio Tex Tape can be used in conjunction with other therapies, including cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, massage therapy, and electrical stimulation.
To get a clearer picture of this method, here is a video clip of a physical therapist facilitating wrist extension assist through Kinesio taping.
I joined Advertlets back in August and have been hosting their ads in my blog for quite some time now. Just a couple of days after joining, my earnings, although very little, just continued to increase. I have one 468x60 banner ad and 2 sidebar ads, one with poll and one without. I was so excited with this venture that I even wrote about getting my first check from Advertlets.
But recently, I noticed that either my earnings would totally not move or will be very slow. I know there's a slight decrease in the numbers of visitors to my blog, but I'm sure it's not that much to cause my earnings to become FROZEN.
Are you having the same problem? Is your Advertlets earnings steadily going up?
With a little kid in the house, you never know when medical emergencies are going to happen. I have been longing to buy some home medical supplies to make our own first aid kit but have not really sat down to do it. I am definitely putting that on my to-do list.
I got reminded of this when I stumbled across AllegroMedical.com. They are online retailers of medical equipment and supplies and they offer products in 50 categories and hundreds of sub-categories. I may just check them out because I might find all the stuff that I need for that kit.
... but not quite. Yes, the tree is up, all six feet of it. And I've even managed to put on the fairy lights as well while the little girl watched on.
I must admit it was not all that easy. Probably it's because we chose a tall tree to start with. Anyway, all that's left to be done is to hang baubles on its branches. Oh, and let's not forget the pressies that go underneath it. :)
Warning: This is a pretty long post so brace yourself!

Put your character in the subject line and forward to your friends and back to the person that sent this to you.
Very interesting to see ‘who’ your friends are!
(10-16 points) You are Garfield : You are very comfortable, easy going, and you definitely know how to have fun but sometimes you take it to an extreme. You always know what you are doing and you are always in control of your life. Others may not see things as you do, but that doesn’t mean that you always have to do what is right. Try to remember, your happy spirit may hurt you or others.
(17-23 points) You are Snoopy: You are fun, you are very cool and popular. You always know what’s in and you are never are out of style You are good at knowing how to satisfy everyone else. You have probably disappeared for a few days more than once but you always come home with the family values that you learned Being married and having children are important to you, but only after you have had your share of fun times.
(24-28 points) You are Elmo: You have lots of friends and you are also popular, always willing to give advice and help out a person in need. You are very optimistic and you always see the bright side of things. Some good advice: try not to be too much of a dreamer. Dreaming too big could cause many conflicts in your life.
(29-35 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants: You are the classic person that everyone loves. You are the best friend that anyone could ever have and never wants to lose. You never cause harm to anyone and they would never not understand your feelings. Life is a journey, it’s funny and calm for the most part. Stay away from traitors and jealous people, and you will be stress free.
(36-43 points) You are Charlie Brown: You are tender, you fall in love quickly but you are also very serious about all relationships. You are a family person. You call your Mom every Sunday. You have many friends and may occasionally forget a few birthdays. Don’t let your passion confuse you with reality.
(44-50 points) You are Dexter: You are smart and definitely a thinker… Every situation is fronted with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You demonstrate very strong family principles. You maintain a stable routine but never ignore a bad situation when it comes. Try to do less over thinking every once in a while to spice things up a bit with spontaneity!
Isn’t it very convenient to have money when you need it? Banks and other lenders here in Singapore are now getting more considerate in allowing almost anyone to apply for unsecured loans like payday loans.
Approval which usually takes several weeks to a few months not only take as little as 24 hours for processing until the release or transfer of of the money into your chosen account.
There are also free comparison services where you can request free quotes from a network of licensed lenders. Also provided are information that you can use to make your own decisions about short-term cash loans. Visit one of the sites where you can get information of the sites that offer payday loans.
Have you ever experienced being short on cash? Did you consider taking up payday loans?
Have you ever considered investing your finances in gold? It seems that is an option nowadays because gold hardly ever depreciates so you are sure that your money is in safe keeping.
To make things more interesting to you, did you know that a gold coin in the US has a $50 face value? That is a lot considering that we are only talking about one coin here.
So if all that trivia has sparked your interest, then you can consult Monex Deposit Company for all your inquiries regarding this type of investment. You can buy gold and other precious metals from them and can have them delivered immediately to your doorstep. Or if you would rather store your precious metals at a safe place, they also arrange that for you.
It is not unusual for persons aged 75 years old and above to drive their car in the US (or anywhere else for that matter.) Although driving is a complex skill, it may represent freedom, control, and competence. It may be important economically and socially. However, the ability to drive safely may be affected by changes in physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
Geez, I can't believe there is only a month left until Christmas is here. I guess I've been too busy here at home to notice how fast time has flown. And we have no Christmas tree still to speak of! J promised me to help me put it up tonight. Well, we will see about that! It's make or break, I tell you! :P
Yes, today is the day for all Aussies. J went out to vote this morning. It is required of all citizens.
It's between the Australian Labor Party and the National Coalition. Rudd versus Howard. So, who do you think who's going to win? I think I have a fairly rough idea which party is going to make it. But I'm not telling just yet. It's too early in the day for that. I don't want to nip it in the bud, so to speak. :P
I haven't been online lately, that's because I just got out of the hospital, again. I had a cyst removed, it hurts, but its cool cus the doctor gave me pain killers, ahahah. I am however stuck at home (province) for the whole recovery period, so that means dial up internet, deal or no deal, princess sarah, pinoy big brother, and ysabella. But I get to go to the beach and eat tons for free, so i get to save for my christmas wishlist. In the afternoon Im on a dvd marathon so i get to complete my top 100. So far Ive seen 30 out of the list. And that's what I have been doing. Bah. Im still bored.
Sometimes, when you are a newcomer to a place, it is quite difficult to get around and feel at home. Here’s a tip. You need to socialize to meet new people. One way of doing that is join a religious congregation. If you happen to be in Conneticut, then the Churches in the Hartford CT area could be your answer. They have a weekly newsletter that you can subscribe to so that you’ll be in the loop, so to speak.
I hope this cool weather stays on. Christmas is not christmas with the heat! I just can't marry the two things together as I have always associated the low temperatures with the holiday season.
It is my first Christmas here in Oz. I know it's never going to be the same as it is in our beloved Philippines. But this is our life now. We have just got to embrace it.
AMERICAN PHYSICAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION NAMED SCIENCE PARTNER TO THE PRESIDENT’S COUNCIL ON PHYSICAL FITNESS AND SPORTS
The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) formally named the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) as Science Partner on Friday, Nov 16, during APTA’s “Preview 2020″ conference, Nov 16-18 in Phoenix, Arizona.
“The President’s Council recognizes and values APTA’s commitment to elevating the application of science to physical therapist practice,” said Melissa Johnson, executive director of PCPFS. “We look forward to working in close collaboration to improve the health, physical activity, and fitness levels of Americans of all ages and abilities.” APTA and PCPFS will work together on the development and dissemination of strategies for promoting the value of physical fitness.
PHYSICAL THERAPY IN ICU REDUCES HOSPITAL STAYS, STUDY SHOWS
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) cites the results of the first study to show the effectiveness of early physical therapy for patients in a medical intensive care unit (ICU). The study, conducted by Peter Morris, MD, associate professor in the Section on Pulmonary, Critical Care, Allergy and Immunologic Diseases at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, was presented at the October 23 meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians in Chicago.
“This non-randomized study, the first of its kind on this particular topic, proves that the skills of a physical therapist are essential to the expedient recovery of ICU patients,” said Mary Pat C Jobes, PT, MA, president of APTA’s Acute Care Section and manager of physical therapy at Haywood Park Community Hospital in Brownsville, Tennessee.
PT TREATMENT CAN PROVIDE RELIEF FOR PEOPLE WITH COPD
Physical therapist treatment for COPD, which includes breathing training and exercise, can help improve the quality of life for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) stated in recognition of November’s National COPD Awareness Month.
COPD, also called emphysema or chronic bronchitis, is a serious lung disease that over time makes it difficult for a person to breathe. For people who have COPD, the airways (tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs) are partially blocked, which makes it difficult to expel air. COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, with more women than men dying of the disease. The number of people living with COPD is increasing.
Technorati is still the leading monitor of the world of weblogs. Linking is still important. A link from one weblog to another helps provide context around an argument or point, and it is essentially a "vote of attention" from one blogger to another. The relevance of a site on the web can be determined by how often a source is cited and therefore considered an authority.
Links in the world of weblogs are even more important since bloggers frequently link to and comment on other blogs, creating a sense of timeliness and back-and-forth one would have in a conversation.
Most of us already know how it works. For those who are still in the dark, Technorati tracks the number of links and the unique source of links to determine the breadth and readership of any author or site. Read more about Technorati and making money online.
Thank God for opportunities! :) I started the day with no opps and was not so sure I was going to get any but the good Lord continues to bless me! I opened my inbox first and there was my first opp for the day. The rest just followed. :)
I talked about the pressure I felt with all the work that needed to be done. But at the same time, I feel restless when there's nothing to do. Ironic isn't it? :P
Last year, we gave my twin sisters a couple of Ipods for their eighteenth birthday. This year, I am considering of getting them a couple of affordable ipod batteries since they use them a lot and are always out of the house. This way, they are sure that their Ipods won't go dead on them as they always have spare batteries to keep them running.
With a new baby in the family, I am thinking of upgrading my life insurance premium with my insurance company back home. I will ask our agent to give us some good life insurance quotes so we can go over them and pick out what is best for my family and me. It is another expense that we have to include in our budget but it is all for the best.
Yes, after days with the sweltering heat, the heavens decided to cool us down and brought us wonderful rain last night. Everybody slept well last night because it was cool. It's still drizzling as of this moment which makes it good 'bed' weather. Sadly, I do not have the time to just laze around in bed as there is work to be done. I wish it would also rain on the weekend so we can all sleep in. :)
The little girl's passport finally arrived today. We have been waiting for for weeks. We were supposed to receive it a fortnight ago but only got notice from the post office yesterday. In fact, it was a final notice that was given to us, which is weird because we never really got any note from them. Anyway, I'm glad it's already here. Should there be a need for us to travel overseas, we can now bring Erin with us anytime. :)
I am going to get my laptop soon and I am looking into as well other items or accessories that I can take along with it. A portable scanner could be really handy because you never know when you are going to need to scan some items and send them as picture files. It's always best to be prepared.
I was browsing through the ScanShell site and was looking at the 2000N model and found it to be pretty cool. It was lightweight and therefore very easy to transport as it is small in size. I am sure to get high quality pictures because it boasts of its high resolution 600 dpi feature. Plus, it has a USB connection so you can just hook it up to your computer in an instant. It is also made to work well with Microsoft Outlook which makes it really convenient for the person who's always on the go.
I am not a technical person so I don't know much about electronics and electrical connections so it helps that devices like this are easy to install and use. This is something worth considering if and when we do get the chance to finally purchase that long-coveted laptop of mine.
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), with the support of TransCanada Corporation, RBC Financial and other partners, has launched a campaign titled My Mental Health. This campaign aims to increase awareness of mental illness in an effort to eliminate the misconceptions surrounding it. Their website, www.mymentalhealth.ca, presents the five-step plan.
Learn about mental health by reading about the many types of illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders and schizophrenia.
Measure your mental health by assessing your knowledge and how you deal with certain stresses.
Get help if you need it through the many types of help available such as counseling, medication or alternative methods.
Take action to make a difference by advocating, volunteering, hosting a mental health party, or just simply helping to get the mental health conversation started.
Donate to support local programs and events funding for CMHA and other local non-profit organizations ensures that resources for individuals living with a mental illness will be available when you or someone you know needs such resources.

The coverage and treatment of violent conflict and war, and peace negotiations have raised questions about the impact of media on these and other national crises. The news agenda should be an independent process, seeking out the facts without external influence. And yet, journalists will be the first to admit that reporting can be colored or biased, as well as sensationalized. Worse, media can submit to contending sides and conduct a war of words, the force of which can harden the will against agreements that lay the ground for permanent peace.
This November, the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) has invited more than 20 Manila- and community-based journalists to its Peace Journalism Seminar. The program will provide a shared framework of understanding the issues, with background briefings on the government-initiated peace process, perspectives on insurgency, and the role of the media in these developments, including practical pointers for the media.
Actually, I have already taken up a short online certificate course on Peace Journalism from the Asian (Konrad Adenauer) Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University last year. But I really look forward to attending CMFR's Peace Journalism Seminar, because CMFR has always cited peace as a critical area of press coverage. Media and Peace, in fact, has been a major concern for CMFR even before it published Media and Peace Reporting in 2000 (For those covering conflict-related issues and peace negotiations between the government and rebel groups, I really suggest reading this comprehensive book). And even before the Philippine Journalism Review and later the PJR Reports have conducted content analyses and monitors on press coverage of Mindanao.
CMFR's Peace Journalism Seminar will tackle and discuss questions such as "Does practicing peace journalism make me more of an advocate than a journalist?" and "How should I report on conflict and peace issues?" plus more.
So here I am in the office spending an overnight trying to finish my stories and other items for the December issue of the PJR Reports. Sigh.
Not that bad though. Blog entries, like the one from Desi below, keep me amused and sane even though I practically live now in the office. Desi is a former election volunteer of CMFR.
Students! Throw away your books! You can include your sputtering pens and unused notebooks! Just bring yourself and perhaps one of life's basic necessities: instant noodles. Or whatever. Heed my call! Together, we shall march our tattered Chuck Taylors and slippers to wherever our uncorrupted intellect may take us. For we are about to embark on this lifelong struggle for a society that our jovial, freedom-loving, and individualistic societal designation - the student body - has so badly longed for: a classless society.
Tama mga iskulmeyts, isang lipunang walang klase!
And in light of these pronouncements, let me present my treatises why we should skip classes altogether and frolic someplace else with the consenting members of the opposite sex. While the majority of it maybe personal, I do believe that many of you feel that same weight on my back that our older kindred has so unjustly derided as laziness. Injustice, my test cheatmates, injustice!
