Oh shoot! A meme!

Posted by alohapenny on Thursday, June 19th, 2008 @ 11:36 pm in Personal - International.

Fisheye2. White. Nuff said.

Wait, you're wondering where the meme is? Its a few lines down below.  See what I did with the title? (Oh shoot! Get it? No? Fine.) Anyway, I got my hands on this baby the other night (met up with Jennie) but I was busy so I couldn't write an entry right away. Heh. That's also why this meme is late (I was tagged by Helga last Sunday)

1. What was I doing 10 years ago? Being stressed and pressured because all my elementary classmates were no longer at the same section as I was. At the same time we moved houses so all my childhood friends (some [American ones] went back to the States) and memories faded away. Also, mourning for the loss of vendomachines with lots of chocolates and candies around my neighborhood (not exactly my neighborhood).  Come to think of it, I was emo before I even knew it. Oh! I was also busy playing the guitar (or at least learning how to) and exchanging Hanson posters. (What?)

2. What are 5 things on my to-do list today? Since my day is about to end, I plan to go home, take pictures with my Fisheye2 and finish the whole roll of film, sleep, wake up, go to the nearest Konica express and get it processed. Since it takes them an hour and a half to scan the transfer the pictures to a cd, I will walk around the mall and check out some beachwear because we are going to the beach this weekend for a company outing. No Im not excited because we are going to Subic, where I live. Meh.

//Edit: I just got myself into a drinkfest so I wont be able to sleep just yet.

3. Snacks I enjoy: Nachos, Doritos, Lays, Ruffles and salsa. Oreo cookies dunked in peanut butter. Cheese, on tuna. Cheese on crackers or alone, cubed. Uhm... Is rice a snack? Cus I love eating kaaaaanniiiinnn!!!

4. Places I’ve lived: Olongapo City, (Subic) Zambales | Acacia,  Malabon City | Sampaloc, Manila | WoW Cubao, Quezon City

5. Things I’d do if I were a billionaire: I wouldn't be here now. Im prolly busy taking pictures of the pyrmids in Egypt, I will waste it on trips all over the world. Buy A LOT OF SHOES. Waste it on film and digital cameras. Manage a business. Oh and also donate occassionally to charity. Lulz.

6. People I want to know more about: Hmmm....I don't really know.

Thursday, I went to Shangri-La Plaza for the French Film Festival only to find out that the film I was trying to catch, Serbis, was shown the day before. FAIL. This film made it to Cannes and I heard it was praised by Sean Penn. Anyway, I made it in time for the 4:30pm curtain, the film was  Ma vie en l’air (Love is in The Air). It was ok but somehow lacking. The story is about a guy who works as a plane crash risk analyst. I forgot what he's called but he gives tests to pilots through a trouble simulator and checks how the pilots would get out of the situation the safest way possible, to prevent casualties. But he is afraid to ride the plane himself and hasn't been on one ever. He finds, what he thinks is his true love but she flies to Australia and asks him to follow but he doesn't because of his fear. After the movie, I decided to get food before I watch the next film (7pm)which is called Now Showing. This film was the highlight of the night. The director, Raya Martin, was there (I didn't expect him to be so young) as well as some of the actresses. The movie was 4hrs and 50mins long. (whew!) I know, this was originally 9hrs and it was trimmed down. Because of this I was curious so I stayed to watch atleast the first 2hrs (I have work at 10pm). First 30 mins o fit and I wanted to leave. OMG it was boring. The reason why it was 4hrs long was because it was raw. Imagine watching raw home video footages from childhood, that's what it was like. Ok, I have to give credit to the idea but I wished he edited it and took out some scenes. The end part of the tape , you know, when your screen turns blue? Yes, it was there too. No offense, this is just my opinion. The movie could have been a good one but I wouldn't know for sure. I dunno if something happens in the end, something exciting perhaps, because I didn't have enough patience and curiosity. The movie was also part of Cannes. Meh. I've had it and left after the scene he took of a Jolibee toy figure moving around the table. FAIL.

***

A few weeks back, I found a Cannon EOS Rebel K2 lying around at home and I was on my way to the beach. So I grabbed it and tested it. I had so much fun. However, I used a cheap film so the pictures aren't that clear. Uhm... I'm not sure if that's related? I just got the film processed at Digiprint, set here. Also, I dunno why I'm developing (Get it? Developing? No? Fine.) the habit of posting updates on my weekend, that took place more than two weeks ago. Huh?

I uploaded this and it turned upside down. Weird.

What to do when you’re bored at work

Posted by alohapenny on Tuesday, May 27th, 2008 @ 10:32 pm in Personal - International.

Blog! I thought of some other things too. My first option was of course to skip work. But considering my suspension and with June being just around the corner, ( which also means half of our sick leaves will be converted to cash ) I decided to ditch that thought. Besides, its always hard to enjoy when you constantly have to be alert and look out for people from work, yes that happened to me once. Going back, I have no choice but to go to work and hope that today would be as 'petiks' as yesterday (because it was Memorial Day in the states therefore not much calls.) Is that too much to ask? I guess so. I've always thought that if we have a holiday at work, there's always something in store for us the next day. Sure we enjoy all the food distributed and we enjoy lounging around in the pantry, while the rest of the Americans go to parades and stuff, but that almost always translates to having a very stressful work day after. Much like today, my shift started at 7pm and after 3 hours we already have reports of 2, not 1, but 2 outages! Both regions across America are experiencing downtimes, hooray! So much for a holiday. Right now I'm using my break in order to post an entry because I don't want this blog to feel neglected. LOL. And Im hurrying up so I could leave because I noticed that the calls are becoming more and more stressful. Im kidding, if any of my supervisors are reading this, I was able to finish everything I'm supposed to do of course, I always make sure that I do, and i'm willing to render overtime if you'd like?

Anyway, I post pictures of my weekend, uhm, two weeks ago? What a late I know. We went to Manaoag, Pangasinan and heard mass there. Seriously, cus we're devoted like that. In case you didn't know, that's 6hours away from my hometown. Penny + weekend = BOOZE CHURCH???!! Yeah, yeah, shut up!

People sell a lot of religous items there like rosaries, prayer booklets and other holy figures. Those who buy have it blessed after the mass.

At the back of the church there's an area where you can light a candle and pray for something to happen, like, i dunno, world peace? That's water underneath, filled with melted candles.

Every time we go to church here, we always eat at this place not far from the church. I keep forgetting the name, but they serve bad ass sea weed salad! And Adobong Pusit, a famous dish here in the Philippines. Most people don't like it. I love it!

Photohunt: SHOES

THEY'RE MINE!! ALL MINE!!!

YAY! Two photohunts in a row! That's new, but I don't have any entry in between, MEH. I was too lazy to post again. Plus I don't get any opps/sponsored post assignments anymore, I wonder why. Anyway, this entry's theme is SHOES! This photo was taken at VNC, December of 2006 (this blog wasn't around yet) right after I got the (Christmas) bonus. My pals and I headed to the mall and burned holes in our wallets.

Photohunt: Candy

Posted by alohapenny on Saturday, May 17th, 2008 @ 4:27 pm in Personal - International.

Skittles! And my slippers!

I miss eating Skittles. Gone are the days when vendo machines were everywhere back where I live and filled with Skittles (and other candies) and cost only .15 cents. Americanized Olongapo! But you can now get them at 7eleven stores for, I dunno, 30 pesos? Wow, I miss doing the photohunt too! Its been two months since my last entry. Haha

MRT Obsessions

Posted by alohapenny on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008 @ 4:29 pm in Personal - International.

Before I got suspended, I have been late three times, which I got another memo for. Uh, yeah what an irresponsible. Well, I tried hard cleaning up my record by NOT being late after the suspension memo was served. Let's see how that worked out, uhm, it didn't. It was a total FAIL. Just like the MRT. Yeah, the fuckin MRT! I thought working at night would be good because that way I don't get to experience the rush hour, but NO. I just had to be given the 8PM shift, which I thought was late enough to avoid the people who just got out of work and are on their way home, (again) but NO. Question! I thought you lived 5mins near your workplace? Why are you complaining about the rush hour? Well, I had to go to Shangri-la Plaza you see. In order to get there, I have to take the (fucking) MRT. On the way though, it was a rather pleasant ride. I was the only one who got in from the Cubao station, and I was even able to sit down. Time flew and what do you know, I needed to get back to the office. According to my phone it was 7PM already, so I headed to the MRT. There wasn't a lot of people in line and that's always a good thing. Or so i thought. When I got to the platform area, it seemed like a concert! Only, these were people from all walks of life. Not people who like a certain genre of music. The MASSES! The train (full of people!) had just arrived and as soon as the doors opened, everyone just jumped inside. Nevermind the people trying to get out of the train, as long as we get inside. Oh GOD, I said to myself, Satan's minions decided to ride the train the same time I did. HELP ME.

What the papers said

Posted by on Friday, May 9th, 2008 @ 6:17 pm in Personal - International.

A few entries back, I said something about getting a memo for doing something stupet. Well last night, the superior went up to my station and said, "Penny do you have a minute?  I have papers for you to sign." Those words ate me and I thought OH SHIT THIS IS IT. So I took a deep breath, stood up and followed her. In my mind I kept saying OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! When we got to her station, she laid three sets of papers for me to sign, one copy goes to Human Resource, one for me and one for her. She was smiling, I guess that’s a good thing, I thought to myself. When I sat down and read the words on the paper, "To Ms. Monasterial"  followed by more words which I’ve read before when she issued me the memo, I was thinking, hmm… what could be different or added to this memo? She prolly noticed my eyes going back and forth from the starting paragraph down to the mid part and realized that I was stupid not to figure out the verdict was at the bottom. So she pointed it out with a pen, "It’s right here Penny, your punishment and this is where you sign." I replied with an "OH OK" and with an I-knew-that tone.

A Greeting!

Posted by alohapenny on Thursday, May 8th, 2008 @ 5:20 pm in Personal - International.

I went home early today and just as I was falling asleep I got a text message from Globe that made me go WTF?! Why is Globe texting me, its not even October yet? The message?

Warmest wishes to you. You are most dearly remembered on your special day. Happy Birthday!

Then I remembered, my Globe line was under my mom's name, so the greeting was for my mom! A year ago today, I was having dinner with the whole family. I had  a good time of course, eating, laughing, and sharing stories about my job and how i'm doing here in Manila. A few days after, three to be exact, we were having dinner again, this time after the mass at our parish. Two events, within four days, both celebrated for my mom, her birthday and mother's day. This year, those days are/will be spent without her because she is not here (in the same country) anymore. I texted her and I will call her later on. Happy Birthday mother!

(don't forget my ipod and laptop. LOL)

Labor Day in Singapore: Filipinos, “Foreign Talents” and Labor Migration

Posted by Culture Shiok! Singapore OFW on Thursday, May 1st, 2008 @ 2:42 am in Personal - International.

Isang mapagpalayang araw sa lahat ng makababasa.

It has become a Labor Day tradition of national governments to announce the current unemployment rate. In my opinion, it is a clear effort to appease the labor movement and ensure the general public that the government is creating new jobs.

In the Philippines, insatiable unhappiness in the labor sector has become a perennial problem for government. With a population of around 90 million, 33.7 million of which are employed (in January 2008), and an unemployment rate of 7.4 % (go figure), celebrating Labor Day means protesting in the streets, activists staging noise barrages, hunger strikes, and mass rallies all calling for more jobs and wage hikes, and on the sideline, to ask the current president to resign. It’s not a pretty picture.

As a result, more Filipinos are crossing borders to seek greener pastures. There are more than 8 million Filipinos overseas, almost 50% of which are temporary migrant fondly called OFWs or Overseas Filipino Workers. Most are in the United States, Saudi Arabia or in neighboring Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore.

Singapore's strong economic growth has led to the creation of more jobs in the first quarter of 2008. Although the unemployment rate rose to 2.0% in March 2008 from 1.7% in December 2007, this is still lower than first quarter of 2007.

Filipinos are benefiting from this steady growth of Singapore, to the dismay of some Singaporeans. They see this as an outright dipping in their iron rice bowl.

Searching for a good job here in Singapore is not easy. Job openings are mostly “for Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents ONLY”. Most Filipinos traditionally get domestic help jobs, together with Indonesians. Filipino nurses are also sought after. Singapore also opened its doors to skilled technical workers and some professionals. Recently, Filipinos have been landing jobs in most sectors, services, manufacturing and construction, competing with the locals in the process. Another not so pretty picture.

Regrettably, as bad as it may seem to the common Singaporean, it is inevitable, a multi-faceted phenomenon known as overseas labor migration. This migration helped shape Philippine’s population and change the course of development at the individual, household, community, and national levels. It has made a substantial impact on the country’s economic performance.

So what’s in it for Singapore? The category of foreign talents where Filipinos fall under ensures there are enough workers nurses and technicians not readily available locally. In the long run, they would also rejuvenate and increase an ageing, declining population and even replace thousands of Singaporeans working or emigrating abroad.

Yeah right… Most Singaporeans will disagree. With the influx of Filipinos, Indonesian, Thais, Indians and even mainland Chinese, it’s too much too swallow. The open door policy that the government has actively pursued is indeed not to everyone’s liking, at least for some Singaporeans.

To be fair to Singaporeans, the government should be more strict in screening foreign talents.

As what Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long has stressed, Singapore workers, and I personally believe also covers foreigners, need to continually refresh their skills to be adaptable in case the global environment changes.

Remember when I said, "Would you believe I haven't updated my blog in a week?", well, I've totally outdone myself, I haven't updated in a month! Iknoerite?! Not that people are really waiting to hear from me or wanting to read what I write, but you know what I mean. Anyway, it's the 30th, you know what that means, PAY DAY! Right now though, I am waiting for the salary to be credited, there's been some sort of delay. Well, not really, it's actually on time. It's just that our salary has ALWAYS been credited a day (or two) before the actual pay day so getting it today is already late, oh if you could hear the rants of the people here at the office. I think I just heard Marlon shouting "ANO NA? ANO NA? ANO BA HR?! WALA NG PERA!!!", so I guess he needs it badly.  Me? Not really, I'm just using this as an excuse to stay late at work while I try to finish this entry and bore you to death. Also, I'm hooked, I'm trying to catch up on Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill. *giggles* (shut up) Oh you know what who else I'm totally obssessing on? Jason Castro of American Idol, I can't wait for tonight! Those eyes, his distinctive sound, and the hair! Its teh shmex. And I'm not the only one.

Aside from cute boys and girls on TV, there are other things that have been on my mind. Take baby names for example, (wait, what?) yeah, for some odd reason I'm thinking of baby names. Probably because two of my officemates are preggers and a friend just gave birth, all have not been able to sleep cus they're trying to come up with names for their kids. Hey, as long as its not, well, long and spelled the right/normal way, then its cool. Speaking of names, I've been thinking of registering and getting my own domain (name), but I'm not really sure, considering the little time I devote to updating this blog. I thought paid posts would help fill in for when my lazy ass brain decides to stop functioning, but no. It was too lazy even for blog ads. But I want a domain! I even included it in this list. From another list I made, I also included a laptop and a DSLR. Well, I hope to get those this year, within the next month. *crosses fingers* That's if I don't get fired. Yeah, I have an IR and got a memo for it, it does not end there, my case is actually under evaluation and depending on the gravity of my offense, I can either get suspended, or worse fired. What have I done? I had someone log me in so I wont be late, I arrived 3 minutes after my shift started. Apparently, under company policies that's falsification of time records, dishonesty, and inducing another employee to perform an act of dishonesty. YAY! My first memo, after a clean record of 2 years and 6 months. I couldn't sleep for two days, which made me realize that I actually care about my job despite it starting to feel boring. While I was restless, someone's actually been really helpful in terms of giving advise and moral support and I thank you. The said someone is actually making a come back, or atleast I think so. But none the less being there for me was a plus, I hope it was a sincere gesture though. Change topic. Where have I been? What aside from the province and back? Nowhere. I was not able to go to Anawangin Cove with Helga, Anne and Lauren. Sad. Oh but I have been to drinking fests with friends. The latest one was in Katips for the 88db.com blogger night. I came late but just in time to catch Ade's band, Lose your beer belly, play. I saw the TMB retards once more, oh Adam and Jen were there too! But I missed some of the i.ph bloggers, I only met Maki and Cai and Mica (again) Im still waiting for some pics but here's one taken from the Fotoloco booth.

I miss…

Posted by on Monday, March 31st, 2008 @ 1:56 am in Personal - International.

I’m to depressed and sad to go to work, or go out for that matter. But I miss the beach, the sound of the waves crashing, the way it throws me off the shore, the majestic view, the heat of the sun, holding hands while listening to reggae music and sipping mango shake, or drinking ice cold beer. I might go this weekend and the next and the one after that, but i’ve got no one to hold hands with. =( I just want to be alone and stay lost for a while, keep my mind off things.

OK Flickr Photos, missing the old days, depressing. *sigh*

Posted by alohapenny on Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 @ 6:04 am in Personal - International.

I was going through files last night and I realized that I have posted a number no wait, A LOT of photos in my flickr account and A LOT of which have been burried because it only shows the latest 200 photos uploaded, for the free account at least. So using my paypal money (i earned through blogging) I upgraded my flickr to a PRO account and voila! I was able to retrieve my old pictures and I had a good laugh although soon enough I felt depressed as well. Why? Because I miss those days where I had no worries and just drank the night away, or mornings for that matter. I did not care whether I go to the office drunk with only 2 hours of sleep and still reeking of alcohol. I also miss the people, most of them have resigned. Oh and one more thing, I was fat and I looked healthy, not anorexic. :(

Me and Marlon when we were fat

And this is us now, looking anorexic.

More random alcohol intoxicated, fat photos

Visita Iglesia in Singapore

Posted by Culture Shiok! Singapore OFW on Friday, March 21st, 2008 @ 12:44 am in Personal - International.

Visita Iglesia is a Holy Week practice of Catholics in places where there are many churches, in countries like Malta, Poland, Ireland and the Philippines. Overseas Filipinos have brought it to places, like North America, that never had it before.

The custom goes back to the early Church when Christians would visit the seven great basilicas in Rome for adoration of the blessed sacrament after the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday.

Here in Singapore, Christians constitute approximately 14.6% of the country's population; 4.8% (32.9% of Christians) being Catholics and the remaining 9.8% (67.1% of Christians) being of other mostly Protestant denominations and traditions.

Start your Visita Iglesia in Singapore by visiting the following Catholic churches:

Cathedral of the Good Shepherd

St. Joseph's Church (Victoria Street)

Church of St. Joseph (Bukit Timah)

Church of Saints Peter and Paul

Church of Our Lady of Lourdes

Church of St. Teresa

Novena Church (Church of St. Alphonsus)

Running to stand still

It sucks to not know if what you're doing is the right thing or not. Well, the fact is that you really don't get to know, and that sucks more. You just blindly go with the flow and ride the waves of life under the influence of your so called principles and beliefs. All you can do is wait and see where it might lead you and hope that its a better place. But often times its not and you contemplate, should you have gone the other way what would have happened? Being stuck in such a situation is just torture. I am too busy battling my insecurities, fighting boredom at work with a smile on my face, trying hard to avoid complaining about how horrible life is and how alone I feel at times. I don't know how to steer clear of these problems and because of them I barely feel human enough to function. Or perhaps being this affected only shows how human I am, in that case I wish I was a robot so I won't feel anything. This all seems like a bad dream, one that I can't escape, I scream at the top of my lungs but no one hears me, I want to wake up now.  But no matter how hard I try to pull myself out, loneliness creeps and slowly pulls me back in and Im suffocated. It sheds darkness to the last flicker of hope I am holding on to. I feel so helpless. I don't know how long this will go on, all I know is the longer it takes the more it divests me of my sanity and the deeper I fall into despair. So I go about my day with complete indifference. I was told to just hold on and follow the sun. Well, I'm holding on to dear life, but its letting go.

Busy much?

Posted by alohapenny on Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 @ 5:00 am in Personal - International.

Would you believe I haven't seen my blog in a week? Yes, I haven't been able to update my blog because I was assigned to go walk around and coach the team. I'm not complaining though, it is part of my job description, I just haven't done it in a while and I forgot how stressing it was. Good thing it lasted for just a week, I miss my computarrr and I miss being able to twirl my chair and wheel it around the area or from station to station. Most of all, I miss being able to eat while working, I can't really do that while I'm walking around the floor and coaching, unless I eat sandwiches. BUT MY STOMACH YEARNS FOR KANIIIIN!!! I had to use my breaks to eat rice, which normally I would use it for going outside to buy taho. =(

So anyway, updates. My mom left for the states last Sunday, she will stay there for a while, (I don't really know how long) I guess until she fixes our papers, then we would have to go there too. I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon though. So I spent my Sunday at the airport, my mom cried, she probably thought she would never see us again, lol. Before the airport, the entire day was spent with our relatives, they were saying their goodbyes and giving her lists of things to buy and send via balikbayan box, lol again. Then there was the never ending reminders she had for me about my drinking sprees, bills, work, future plans and boys, super lol. Oh and she got a car before she left, for me! Well, not exactly for me, its for home use which means its for my sister's use as well. And by home I mean Subic, so I really can't bring it here in Manila. Iknoerite? Also, since I was at the airport I didn't get to go to the Incubus concert with TJ. *le sigh*

I also bought a new phone. I know I just got a new one last December, but I don't like it anymore, meh. I can never be satisfied with a cellphone, I think I kept one for a year and that's the longest time I've had the same phone. Don't get me started with how the prices go down quickly. It's annoying.

Anyway, despite the exhausting week that was, I still got a chance to unwind because we had our team outing at Kabayan Resort in Batangas during the weekend. I enjoyed the breakfast/lunch/dinner buffet they prepared for us. Oh and I gained two pounds. LOL. Scroll for the pictures, there ain't much of me cus I started drinking when they were playing the games and doing other team activities and I passed out and could not remember a thing. I think I puked on someone, at least that's what they told me. I guess its good to finally let it out, see I've been feeling like I need to throw up (out of the blue) the past few days it's annoying. I try to control it but the feeling gets worse. Having been intoxicated with that much alcohol made it easier, I couldn't even remember throwing up, and on someone for that matter. Ok, gross, again, pictures, scroll.

Arriving at the resort

Oh teh lunch buffet!

Marlon with Rene Salud, yes that's him

Spaghetti for merienda, and this is an hour after we had lunch.

Photohunt: Different

Posted by alohapenny on Saturday, March 8th, 2008 @ 1:06 pm in Personal - International.

YAY! My first photohunt entry for March. I know I said I'll remember NOT to forget posting entries for the scavenger hunt, but I keep forgetting!! Anyway, this week's photohunt theme is Different. This is a photo of my (partially seen) wallet and monnies(!!) which are of a different country. (I was in HK, but I had US dollars with me too.)

A book meme!

Posted by alohapenny on Sunday, March 2nd, 2008 @ 2:40 pm in Personal - International.

Just as I was squeezing my head in the hopes of getting something out of it that I can write about, what do you know, I look at my shoutbox and see a message from Kimmy that said "Penny, you're tagged!" Oh the joy! These memes, I don't like them that much but they sure come in pretty handy at times like this. Anyway, I went to Kimmy's blog and found a rather intersting meme waiting for me. Im suppose to grab the nearest book which has like 123 pages or more, go to the 123rd page, find the fifth sentence (read it) and post the next three here. (Oh and I'm suppose to tag five people afterwards.)

So I quickly scanned the objects around my workstation, NO BOOK. I turn to my right and bend a little to reach for my pedestal and ransack it. After five minutes of digging and papers (unsigned appraisal forms, pep forms and scoresheets) flying all over the place, I finally felt something hardbound. Giggling excitedly, I pulled it (it was a little heavy so I was thinking maybe Harry Potter) out of the drawer and to my dismay, it wasn't Harry Potter, not even close. It was my training manual! So I guess this doesn't count as a book, I wouldn't want to bore you with the stuff that was in it, plus that's company's proprietary information so I really can't post it here. Where did I get a book then? Well I had to go to my workmate's station, I remember he borrowed one from me, I was hoping he had it stashed there somewhere and he did. I found it in his in and out tray.

'Im sick,' said Wilson without moving. 'Been sick all day.'

'What's the matter?'

'I'm all run down.'

I tag Mica, Tom, Janus, Celle, and Sarah.

Playing blackjack online

Posted by alohapenny on Friday, February 29th, 2008 @ 12:56 am in Personal - International.

As I have said before, I am not big on gambling. I know a little bit of poker and that's about it. If you remember I even said that I have only been inside a Casino once when I was a kid. And now that I am of age, the closest thing to a Casino I have ever been to is our company's Christmas party which was themed Las Vegas.

Anyway, as card games may amaze one person, inside the casino land there are far more fun games to play such as the slot machines, who would not agree? But then of course there are still a lot of people who would stick to the cards right? Aside from poker, there's blackjack which is also know as pontoon or twenty one. This is one of the most popular card games in the world. You see a lot of websites that review online casinos and rank which ones are best using categories such as payout rates among others. I would have to say these guides have totally helped a lot of online gamblers in terms of narrowing down their choices.

Most of these casino websites showcase blackjack as their main attraction or game. People, or should I say gamblers, just go crazy over them. These free online blackjack websites, one of which is Blackjackclub.com, offer the best entertainment when it comes to online gambling. Their website is very easy to navigate and it is available in most languages so where ever you are from, you can play blackjack with ease. If you are new to blackjack, that is not a problem at all, you can play their flash game for free on their website! This is a good way to train yourself so you can either play for money or go to a casino for the real thing. I tried it myself and I can say it truly is an online gaming experience.

Of coupons and discounts

Posted by alohapenny on Thursday, February 28th, 2008 @ 5:11 pm in Personal - International.

We all go crazy over super sales in malls, don't we? Well, I know I do especially when it comes to shoes. I would never come out of a shoe store that's on sale with less than three pairs. Iknoerite? My mom would always say, "What the hell do you need more shoes for? You only have two feet." And all I can come up with when I retal is "Well, they were on sale mom!" And I run quickly inside the bedroom, lock the door, try them on, then walk a few times back and forth in front of a mirror imagining a catwalk. Oh the happies! But shoes are not the whole point of this entry.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, most of us go gaga over cheap and discounted prices. I know I never experienced cutting coupons from the news paper just to get discounts in stores, but I did hoard those McSaver coupons being given outside of McDonald's. LOL. :D People find means and would definitely go for cheaper prices, all the time. The internet is one place where people can haggle and save a lot on items like electronics or even jewelry. I never thought I'd buy stuff from the net, I always had the notion that it isn't safe. But that did not stop online stores, there are a lot of ways now to keep a secure purchase over the internet and lots of creative ideas on how to sell, hence the sudden burst of e-stores. Take Couponchief.com for example, they offer discounted coupons from the widest range and variety of stores and products to customers. Shopping becomes so much easier and enjoyable since its not hefty on the pocket and its just a few clicks away. Who would want to waste their time cutting coupons from the newspapers?

Coffee break

Posted by alohapenny on Friday, February 22nd, 2008 @ 5:51 pm in Personal - International.

I just got back from Subic, yes I was there for five days, and all I did was watch DVDs and eat (lots of kanin). Its Friday and I got nothing better to do, well...I do have work, but you know how I said before that my current job isn't that fun anymore? Well today is just one of them lazy days so I, along with my officemates, stepped out for coffee at Tomas Morato. Too bad I had work cus if I didn't I'd probably be having spiked coffee all the way in Makati and that would be the closest thing to alcohol I'm gonna get for the entire week because I have to work. BOO.

Anyway, it was a good two hours spent laughing and camwhoring. I post peekchurs since I got nothing else to say. NO? bleh.

Youth Olympic Games 2010 in Singapore

Posted by Culture Shiok! Singapore OFW on Thursday, February 21st, 2008 @ 10:30 am in Personal - International.

Singapore will host the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2010. The result was unveiled by IOC President Jacques Rogge at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. Singapore beat Moscow in the final vote, 53 to 44.

“Singapore has put together a very exciting project. Hosting the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) for the first time is a great responsibility, and I have every confidence in the team in Singapore. I have no doubt that their professionalism and enthusiasm will be instrumental in the staging of successful Youth Olympic Games in 2010,” said Rogge to journalists present in Lausanne.

More than seven months of hard work by Singapore's YOG bid committee, headed by Mr Ng Ser Miang, didn't go down the drain.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Switzerland stopover to meet IOC President Rogge to show Singapore's seriousness in hosting the Games proved worthwhile.

Those who went to the Final Countdown Party at the Padang didn't go home with sad faces.

The Games village that will house the more than 3,200 athletes and 800 officials should be ready on time.

It's time to prove the world that Singapore is ready.
